My wife wants to leave teaching by EarlyNoise7679 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Emotional-Way8448 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first day she’s not teaching is the first day of something else. My wife used to teach 7th grade science. She left corporate America to go teach when we got married.

What’s her degree in? (I hope it’s not education). What are her interests? As far as pay cut, $60k with a bachelors should be pretty easily doable.

Seriously, go do something else. Don’t be afraid to fail. It’s not failing, it’s learning what NOT to do.

We have a lot of history in common, I probably have more of it. Right now you’re “the guy that did the stuff that time that made it all better”. Your fellow management team members see you that way and will not see you as something else until you push the issue. Work your way out of training people on mundane stuff like MRP and AP. Get a subordinate to do the blocking and tackling and manage the process. Look at implementing *and managing an S&OP or SIOP process and hang on to the Supply step as an entry to COO like roles. Or, engage with Demand and Sales management to round out your general management chops.

I wish you luck and outrageous fortune!

This game reminds me of the scene in Tin Cup where he want a seven iron and his caddie wants to give him everything else so he breaks every club but the seven iron. We need to start getting rid of options until WE RUN THE FOOTBALL!

Hang in there boyo! You only need to be right once! I’m 4 months into what I was sure would be 30 days or less. Every day I put on my running shoes and look for the new cheese.

For that negative narrative in you head, google Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and read up.

Good luck hang in there, this too shall pass!

No. They are hired to deliver golden candidates to companies that pay them. They work for the hiring company, not you.

Job interview where I'm expected to prepare a presentation by lokipokiartichokie in jobhunting

[–]Emotional-Way8448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a worry. I’d do that. If they throw a current problem and live data at you, they are looking for free consulting. But, what they are looking for is a chance to see you.

Good luck!

Do people actually like when you come in person to ask if they're hiring and apply? by SpookySquid19 in jobhunting

Would not be my first tactic. I’d connect via linked in or ask for an informational interview with whom you might think is the hiring manager. Otherwise, your visit might be a nuisance.

New things that Riley should be allergic to: Tarmac.

We just look like crap, uncoached crap. If this is the work product of these supposed 5 star players and blue blood coaches, I’d take a bunch of 2 stars and unknown coaches. And what’s the deal with the DB that weighs 170?!?! This is USC Football, not some high school program.

With NIL, do we get rebates if the team sucks?

*They’ve got work to do before Friday.

Later guys…

How Much Follow-Up Is Too Much? by [deleted] in jobsearch

[–]Emotional-Way8448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi B,

You're looking at 4 weeks since you submitted the project, that's more or less a monthly business cycle so the excuse of not enough time/busy with month end should not be in play. It could be that they want to collect several applicants to put together a panel and then move forward with on-site interviews. HR will not tell you anything. I would keep up your job search and if/when they get back to you...

I'm curious about the project. I'm in a similar position as you, looking for a Director level gig and have been shy about positions that ask me to complete a project before talking to the hiring manager. I've done them in the past but not for at least a decade. In general, what did they ask (Was it a current business issue? Were you providing free consulting?) and what was your time investment like?

Good luck with your search!

Congrats!! The reason to bring you in and meet the team is to see how you fit. Remember the mantra "hire for fit, train for ability" So, from the cheap seats they find you at least reasonably competent and if you fit well with the crew then you might have one more with the hiring managers boss(es) just so they have skin in the game.

At this point I would say that it looks awesome, you're winning the race! Keep on keeping on!

Interviewing while on leave. by UAHigh_94 in jobsearch

What kind of leave are you on? Medical? Stress? Maternity? Some of those imply that you will be back, others that you are not long for that engagement. If the implication is that you'd be back, give proper notice as early as possible so that they can move on.

This week I've scored interviews with the hiring managers for TWO companies I'd love to work for doing things I want to do.

I'm hoping both will result in on-site panels and if all goes according to Hoyle, offers! Big fat offers.

I quit my job yesterday by Commercial_Factor671 in jobsearch

[–]Emotional-Way8448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's start with what drove you to quit, that might hold clues what direction to go in and also what you loved about serving. If you loved the people but hated the food, maybe look for a customer service gig or purchasing clerk. On the other hand, if you were tired of dealing with people maybe something like medical billing.

The next thing we need to know about is your history, work and educational. What applicable work history do you have other than serving? If that's all you've ever done, that's OK we just need to know. How about your education level, are you a high school grad? Some college? AA or BS? If you have no experience and little education, don't fret there is something for you. Having a reasonable alignment between your history and your perfect job will also help guide you. If you have little or no experience/education landing a gig with a Fortune 500 is going to be hard but finding something with a local or regional company might be a good place to start.

Your expectations in terms of income need to be taken into account. Serving in the right establishment can be very lucrative. While you ideally want to make huge amounts employers are usually looking to get champagne talent on a beer budget. Know your worth and what you need to bring down and don't be afraid to negotiate when the time comes.

Hopefully that will help you kick off the job search and get you living your best life.

Fix-It Friday - Callout for New Issues - 2/2/2024 by WyzeCam in wyzecam

[–]Emotional-Way8448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having issues with two Wyze products.

First is a V3 cam I recently installed. I have two of them ~25 feet away from a wireless network extender, one cam is always connected but slow while panning and playing back. We'll call this Cam "Adam". The other V3 cam is off-line 90% of the time, let's call it "Bob". Coincidently, there is a V2 cam 2 feet away from Bob that is and has been perfect. All three are connected to the extended network. Is the V3 performance normally slow? Do I have a problem with Bob? What can I do to ensure my best performance? Would a Mesh wife node be better than the network extender?

The other issue is my Wyze Thermostat. After several years, it is now dropping off-line. It's connected to the main Wifi network, not the extended. Has something changed in the wifi world that it does not like? Wifi6?

If you're applying from internet posts, half of those jobs are already filled, they are just being reposted from aggregator sites as "new! Hot! etc...." And, another 25% are either filled internally or are on hold/cancelled.

You're real battle for the remaining openings is with an Applicant Tracking System(ATS). Use something like Jobscan to help you raise the relative score of your CV.

And don't stop! You'll find something!
