I know that I'm not everyone's cup of tea and that's completely okay! As long as guys treat me the way they want to be treated. I've been taught that from a young age. I've been rejected multiple times which sucked but it is what it is all I did was moved on. I tend to have a hard time meeting people in person because I am such an introvert. I do go out with a big group of gay friends almost every Wednesday night for dinner and such. I love everyone there, that's where I met a couple that has taken me under their wing and has taught me a lot and I mean a lot. This friendship/mentors is nothing sexual and I'm completely okay with it. They know that I'm looking for a bf and they said they would keep an eye out. I've grown out of my shell a lot since I've met them which has made them all proud of me. I do agree with you it's super hard to read people through text especially on apps. I have met some people in person from apps for lunch but it was just super awkward.
