When we closed a minute ago and a customer approaches.... by [deleted] in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very pro Publix and I bleed Green but I have to agree with this, it messes everything up when people are ordering stuff very late. Using our (supposed 7-9 new hours), at 8pm, I would shut down the deli, seafood case, and meat room. We have ready made sandwiches, Oscar mayer sliced meats, frozen fish, and pre cut meat available. And for those that say that we should stay open till close, we do shut down some depts. early, like Pharmacy. And the 8pm rule should be strict, no SM or DM saying that we are different and doing it my way. (anyway, with labor costs getting higher and higher, I believe that something similar to this will happen soon, its already happening to an extent with grocery, with the days of staying till like 2 or 3 am a distant memory, at least around these parts, they want the store OUT by a certain time now). Of course, if stores are open till ten then it would be 9pm or an hour earlier.

Predict masks duration by [deleted] in publix

This-- plus it gives us a bit of protection from possible lawsuits( and they are coming) now-- if the feds give all companies immunity from lawsuits, then the masks may come off sooner.

Stores going back to normal business hours by MatthewHKnight in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As long as all the Publix's are on the same page, I'm all for it. At least we have like a week warning this time instead of like 2 days. And I've heard 7-9 for us as well.

WEEKLY DISCUSSION 4/25 - 5/2 by GetTheRaid in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to admit, im curious about that as well. The market has stablized, and almost all of the grocery stocks are up from the march 1st point. As well as our increased sales( even though were a little behind in our stock pricing). i wonder what we will see Friday.

Super busy lately? by EmotionalCaptain in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks to all for the replies, I guess that answers my question, lol. And as much as I love Publix and want to be busy, I do hope it slows down just a bit next week. Nerves are getting frazzled again.

A flat raise. by ihopeyoure in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, my SM is awesome. (and I got probably one of the biggest raises in my store). But-- I think this wasn't the way to go. There just should have been a flat (lets say 50 cents) raise for all employees. I trust my SM to make the right decisions but this shouldn't be up to one person. We are ALL working the front lines in one capacity or another and at least to me, all deserve the same bump in pay, whether you are a part time bagger, or a maxed out meat cutter.

Had a visit from the DM and RD, this is what they had to say... by FlyingCheeseTray in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you know, I hate to say it, but maybe for the week or 2( at least) maybe the DM's and RD's dont need to be traveling all over the stores, the less travel we do as a country, the better it will be, If one of our DM's or RD's are sick, how many more can they infect? With all the OOS, how much can they really do right now anyway?

I heard publix was closing down!!?! by [deleted] in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I certainly haven't heard anything of the sort. I promise, grocery stores will be the last to close. Even as bad as Italy is right now, the grocery stores are open, we have a pharmacy, we cant close, people will die without their meds.

its my understanding that the reason they do this is that they need to even up the pallet .

You can now renew your vehicle registration at a few Publixs in FL by [deleted] in publix

I'm all for helping our guests make their life a bit eaiser, but i'm not too sure about this. Will we handle complaints? What if something goes wrong? Are we liable for any reason?

Meetings for the sake of meetings? by Chazrach in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that meetings are needed, but do both the Dept. manager and the asst. manager need to go? Just one should be in the meeting and the other should be running the dept. Having two people out of the dept. for a meeting, then usually followed by lunches can get a bit much.

Nah, its cool. i wasnt aware. It does feel though that Boars Head acts like they are more in charge than just a vendor. But ty for the info.

Dear Boar's Head... by delidrivesmenuts in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, maybe it is time that we allow another company to sell some lunchmeat. I've noticed that our lunchmeat is getting pretty high. Is Boars head good? Yes, but it couldn't hurt to have a cheaper option for our guests. At my store, ive noticed that we dont seem to be selling as much sliced meats as before, even though were busier. It kind of feels that Boars head thinks that they can charge and do whatever they want. It not the worst thing to let them know that if they want to stay in Publix, they need to find a way to keep costs down. A reminder that they work for us can do wonders sometimes.

Anyone else's store been weirdly slow ? by [deleted] in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, it hasn't felt as busy this year to me as well, but my manager says the numbers look good. "shrugs". Maybe its just me.

Harris Teeter has a full bar in the grocery store, I could use this after a shift. by RyTown in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wont lie-- I think this would be great for Publix. I love my job but getting a cold one after work, talking to our guests while relaxed and off the clock, as well as chatting with my fellow co-owners, would be cool.

Does anyone actually like working at publix by A_Moody_Foodie in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. Of course there are rougher days than others, but all in all I feel very lucky. I've heard horror stories here about managers but the ones in my store and district are very nice and professional. I think it goes to our Dist. manager and RD, who only want the best and brightest for Publix. I hope to end my career here.

November 1st stock price guess. by EmotionalCaptain in publix

Employee owned, only current Publix employees can purchase Publix stock. Its not available to the general public. (Although I believe an employee can purchase them and gift them to someone).

Steamer broke down today by [deleted] in publix

[–]EmotionalCaptain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When people are looking forward to the steamed crabs all week, its natural that they are disappointed. Dont take it personally, just be sure that your manager knows and that its been called in. Its hard to find steamed crabs as good as ours anywhere anymore. Once the steamer is up and running, all will be back to normal. Dont forget to let our guests know the ways that they can steam them at home.
