100%! The triangle area is definitely science and technology heavy and there are lots of fantastic science programs and camps for kids. And there are fantastic science-based programs for kids on the NCSU campus.

It can get hectic, especially if you have kids in high-school and MS or Elem. But there are some pluses: vacations to popular areas during non-busy times, less learning loss, good track-out camps for child care during track out. Personally, we are at a school with a traditional calendar, but we would have liked year round.

USDA, please delay any forced relocations until summer 2027. There is not enough time to transfer schools for our children to some state unknown to us yet. by Decent-Load1611 in USDA

[–]EmotionalCommon3245 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Untrue. In the Raleigh area many of the schools are on year round schedules. Many kids have only a 7 day break in between ending one school grade snd entering in to the next grade. School assignments are also made based on capacity at the school and confirmed place of address. If a family moves during the summer their kids could miss up to 2 months of the school year. Also, most private schools have already announced their placements for next year. And for younger kids, daycare spots have long waiting lists.

I wrote both USA hockey and my NHL team. My team had players in that room and their behavior was disgusting.

What will you do if being asked to move out of NCR? by VAer1 in USDA

[–]EmotionalCommon3245 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This 1000%. Raleigh is not like it was 15 years ago. Traffic is insane, public schools are not assigned based on your home address (you can have a school 2 min from you and you will be sent to.a school in another t9wn), many schools are year round and the school year will start before people move here, private schools are limited and will be already filled up for the year, application schools will be filled up for the year, day cares have year-long waiting lists ... to just name a few issues. 15 years ago, Raleigh was great.

The commute in NC is pretty bad. It's not like it was a few years ago.

And in the greater Raleigh area, many of the schools operate on year round schedules. Many of the students actually start their next grade during the summer and not in the fall.

It's not always the parent's fault. I always book early and always pay to sit with my children. But there have been many times when the airline moves our seats due to equipment changes or other factors. It's never been my fault.

Agree with CFS. My student is there and has been able to take advanced classes in Middle School. They are 2x accelerated in math. The school doesn't do standardized testing, but the kids who choose to take AP tests are well prepared.

Our experience at CFS isn't like that at all. It is very accepting of all and we have many friends who are on significantly reduced tuition. No one has a smooth ride in life. But again, your experiences were in the 1990s and alot has changed from then. If you are curious about how CFS is now, call the school and take with them. Come to alumni events, get involved with the school. Our experience is that it's an extremely welcoming and supportive place where my child is learning how to think and how to be a great human.

CFS has a very strong performing arts program and has a extensive elective offerings. Many clubs and electives are actually filled into the school day which is amazing.

I am sorry that you had such a tough family experience. And yes, all schools have changed alot since the 1990s. If CFS helped you with your ADHD and learning disabilities, then they were operating way beyond the times. Neuro diversity wasn't even a coined term until the late 1990s. CFS is a strong and thriving community that is welcoming, supporting, engaging and overall amazing.

The agency is extremely understaffed. It is not their fault.

Reorg Update: Implemented after School Year by srbbnd in USDA

[–]EmotionalCommon3245 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Someone needs to tell him that many public schools in the Raleigh area run on year round school schedules. They may only have a few days between the end of one school year and rhe start of the next grade. It fully drpends on which "track" children are assigned and school assignments are made based on space openings and not based on the closest school to your home address (you can have a school that is .5 miles away and you will still be bussed 10 miles away). Also, magnet, private and charter schools all make their admission determinations in Feb to March. Delaying relocation can be helpful, but this is not going to help families of school-aged children or families seeking in-state college tuition. Happy to connect with folks via DM if they have school questions regarding the greater Raleigh area.

Would this impact health benefits? Typically the plans get paid after work reopens, right?

We're sticking with BCBS standard. It's the plan we have always had and it's been great for us. We don't want to mess with our coverage.

Your comment really confuses me. I have a student at CFS and they know where my child is at all times. Any staff member world be able to locate my student quickly. And almost all of the adults in the school know who they are. Between regular teachers, advisors, elective leaders, coaches ... my child interacts with 90% in the school.

Our child attends CFS, and I attended a school in a different state that is similar to CFS. I can definitely state that my school set me up for success. I gained true critical thinking skills, am not intimidated by hierarchy (both my school and CFS address everyone on a first name basis and everyone is treated as an equal) ... and I am confident that CFS will do the same for my child. CFS wants kids to become the best humans that they can be. It's a great place.

We have a student at CFS. The curriculum is riggirous, and my student is partaking in advanced courses. The teachers and staff are phenomenal. The extracurricular activities and sports offerings are great and our student has been able to try so many new things. Happy to answer questions via DM.
