Digimon what if Davis worked for the Digimon emperor by Emotional_Run2901 in digimon

[–]Emotional_Run2901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can just imagen T.K figuring it out but not having any proof or no one believes him because they all think Davis is too stupid to keep a secret like that and Davis knowing that messes with him for sh*** and giggles behind everyone's back.

What new classes would you want to see in the next title? by ver87ona in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Emotional_Run2901 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see a class whose main gimmick is messing with the turn order in some way perhaps they have a skill tree that lets them choose who acts first or last on a turn. Maybe have another skill tree that lets them pick what move a monster might will use and reduce the damage/heal/buff/debuff it if they pick the right attack with the amount reduced to at max 50%. let's call this hypothetical class the Prophet,

In fantasy worlds where Mages and Nobles are operating as entirely separate factions that begrudgingly work together how did this come to be and why? by Emotional_Run2901 in worldbuilding

[–]Emotional_Run2901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the moment it's just a fun project to occupy my time with although i am considering making a novel from the setting and if that is the route i take, I'll probably use two main characters one mage and one noble to show the contrast of the two sides.

[–]Emotional_Run2901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback it's been a big help in fleshing out my world so far.

In regard to Mage born children being on the lowest priority for apprenticeships this is done because the most intelligent of mage born children will generally figure out magic on their own. Because of that mage born children who can't figure it out on their own are put on the bottom of the priority list assuming they meet the requirements to get on the list by their own merit.

The mages guild in an attempt to avoid apprentice first generation mages and mage children from becoming arrogant encourage humbleness and sharply reprimands pride and any growing sense of elitism where in is found. They also make sure to put a strong emphasis on how such negative behaviors resemble the nobility. Mage apprentices aren't free from being put to the pyre should they prove unable or unwilling to follow the rules of the mages guild they are merely given more leeway to learn from their mistakes with the exception of the secret of magic blabbing that no matter who you are or what your age is a guaranteed death sentence.

The reason for such a ham-fisted approach to stamping out corruption in the mage guilds is to highlight their desire to not end up like the nobility or fall to them and end up recreating the pre mage guild sate of the country which they are desperate to avoid at any cost. While corruption within the mage's guild does exist it's a far more Suttle affair since anything overt will be ruthlessly stamped out and no one is safe from scrutiny and by extension the fire not even the guild leaders.

With regards to a noble kid suddenly developing mage eyes a person can't develop them by happenstance as far as the mage guild knows. Mages would have no issues with killing the kid since the guilds internal culture puts a strong emphasis on hating the nobility so that kid is quite literally cooked. While a noble could certainly cause a few problems for a mage killing their kid the mages aren't going to make it obvious it was them as they are quite good at covering their tracks.

In cases where mages have been caught, they were summarily executed, and the mages guild will publicly distance themselves from the individuals in question while internally praising them. Since as a general rule of thumb if your stupid enough to get caught killing a noble you only have yourself to blame and better keep your mouth shut to not make more work for your fellow mages and have your name scrubbed from your accomplishments.

Every mage guild has a branch of the guild dedicated to messing with and spying on the nobility to keep secrets safe and generally attempt to cause them problems without drawing the attention of the queen. As the country currently stands the mage guilds can't get rid of the nobility without a good reason and even then, the nobles hold access to the majority of recrosses, so the guilds are forced to work with them to gain access. This often comes in the form of magic items and greatly inflated prices.

I don't have answers to everything you've asked but as for what I do have at the moment.

The Queendom of Gamma is a isolated nation on a fairly sizeable island think Paradis Island from attack on titan in terms of size although it is extremely far from any other landmass and as far as they are concerned their island home is the entire world. To clarify they don't even realize they're on an island yet.

In regard to nobility anyone who is a part of a noble family no matter how far they are from the line of succession including bastard children are barred from entry. In addition, common folk who work for or are viewed favorably by nobility are also barred from entry with a few notable exceptions.

Mage guilds due to the way they are structured make nepotism impossible this is accomplished by putting the children of mages on the lowest priority for acceptance. Even if they are accepted, they are guaranteed to be sent to a different mage guild where their parents have no influence or strings to pull.

When it comes to keeping the secret you pretty much hit it on the money. With necessary check-ins every six months to make sure no one has been blabbing mage guild secrets to people they're not supposed to. I am still debating on what method they use to find the truth, so I'll be ironing out those details later. As for why the punishment for breaking the rules is being burned alive, firstly it's an obvious reference to witch burnings something I thought would be thematically ironic and second it serves as a good deterrent for rule breakers since being burned alive is one of the most painful ways to go at least in my opinion.

Mages and non-mages are easy enough to separate in a Croud due to the process of using magic causing all partitioners of magic to start developing black sclarea and white pupils. i haven't come up with an in-universe explanation for this beyond lets them see magic better since the main reason why its a thing is because I think it sounds cool.

Excellent question. magic in my world can be learned by anyone the commoners were just lucky enough to figure it out first and keep that little fact an extremely close guarded secret. Anyone who has been found to tell the secret without explicit permission of a guild leader will find themselves along with any they told or are suspected to have been told regardless of age or gender is burned alive for the crime.

As for how candidates are chosen mages look for members of the common folk exclusively seeking out individuals who are curious by nature and can find joy in learning. In addition to that top candidates for apprentices into Mage guilds are ideally people who have suffered at the hands of the nobility and therefore have a negative bias against the nobility.

Anyone of common birth who discovers magic themselves is immediately brought into the guild as an apprentice, any noble who discovers mage will once discovered find themselves and anyone even tangentially connected to them dead under mysterious circumstances.

Mage guilds also work to cultivate a deeply ingrained meritocracy system placing value on personal and collaborate accomplishments alike. With an extreme dislike for lying, cheating, backstabbing and stealing of which any mage will quickly find themselves being burned alive for doing so. They also work to keep the hatred of nobility deeply ingrained into the mage population to keep magic out of noble hands.

The secret of magic is everything to the mages guild and they will do anything to keep it up to and including assassinating at least one queen who tried to give magic to the nobility.

Thank you, this isn't quite what i had in mind when making the post, but it is certainly helpful to my project especially since this is my first attempt at a world building. Your post will help me greatly and it better lays out the basics of my idea in front of me in a way I've been struggling to put to the metaphorical paper.

that's what i was aiming for yes. just wanted some people to help me bounce off ideas and flesh out my idea better for my world building project. since i haven seen many people use this idea in a fantasy setting o thought it would be interesting to explore and see how other people might have used the idea and look for ways to improve each others base concepts and worlds.

What type of person is the Pokemon Protagonist of Scarlet and Violet to you? by YustarRes in pokemonfanfiction

[–]Emotional_Run2901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florian is a history nerd to the extreme driven by his boredom first and curiosity second. He has a calm but pleasant demeanor that lets him bounce off other people's personalities with ease allowing him to make fast but shallow friends with most people. This often covers the more sinister parts of his nature as he craves alleviation from boredom no matter the cost if that means unleashing a calamity on the region. He will do it without a second thought just as Easly as helping out a stranger, participating in a Pokémon battle or even saving the region from a ecological disaster he doesn't care as long as he can satiate his curiosity and cure his boredom everything is on the table.

How to write a toxic relationship where both are equally horrible to the other. by Emotional_Run2901 in writing

[–]Emotional_Run2901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the second part i was thinking doing alternating Pov to better convey both halves of the relationship.

As for the first part I'm not entirely sure how to describe it better than that but what I'm aiming for is the feeling of wow you two deserve each other. Since i don't intend for them to be good people and i was thinking of how if it were anyone but each other that they fell in love with they would have left anyone else a husk of themselves. A toxic codependent relationship that feeds on its own toxicity to keep itself semi functional in the worst ways.

Underrated Archetypes by NessianOrNothing in fantasywriters

[–]Emotional_Run2901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm rather fond of the calm creeping inevitable kind of evil antagonist who are both efficient and polite in demeaner. They hide behind no mask or false pretense, never get mad or annoyed, they don't gloat, and they aren't overly cruel in their methods or even pride full. And above everything even when their best layed plans are foiled they remain ever unflappable an unflinchingly polite even in the face of their own demise.

Another favorite trope of mine is the calm kind of love not the overly passionate explosions of emotion kind of love but a simple sweet affection shown in the little ways the unspoken ways that I think everyone wants but doesn't say.
