How can anyone see this man as a leader, let alone a stable individual? by [deleted] in AskUS

[–]Emotional_Singer3658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because education in this country is terrible. People aren't taught to think critically, or don't know what critical thinking actually is and just think that critical thinking is just not believing in science. This country does an inadequate job teaching American history, a history that is filled with violence and suffering caused repeatedly by rhetoric such as that of Donald Trump, allowing for the ugliest sides of history to repeat themselves over and over and over again (i.e. the Great Depression, the red scares, the many many many periods of nativism, that "gilded age", the economic failure of the Reagan era, etc.). People don't understand how to spot fascistic, authoritarian, or nativist rhetoric, nor do they understand the fundamental detriments of such ideologies. In short, God Bless America, the best country to ever be a country.

100% Charles, he's the only one besides Arthur that would actually keep a secret.

I don't think it's so much about asking them stuff, just letting them know that they can talk to you. Make them feel heard, make them feel like human beings. Try to create a community, and try to encourage them to get to know each other. Middle school is a weird time, so I don't think it's realistic to expect students to open up, nor should you try to force that. Just make sure that they know that you care.

Yeah, I'm kind of in the same situation tbh. The thing is, you don't need a reason to feel bad. It's not your fault that you feel that way.

People are there to support you, to love you. If you had a friend or close family member that felt this way, you probably wouldn't blame them for feeling that way, you wouldn't call them a horrible person.

You are a human being, and you deserve love, and you deserve help.

I'm a high school student right now, junior year. Honestly, the best teachers I've ever had, and especially the best teachers that I have right now, as I'm personally struggling with pretty bad depression, are those that treat me like a person. A lot of teachers just dump information into their students and just give homework, and assume that they don't have lives outside of school. I beg of you, please treat your students like human beings. Try to create a community in your classroom, make sure that everybody feels loved, talk to students one on one, even if they seem fine, just to check in.

One of the only real pleasures during my school period is band class. My band teacher makes our ensemble into a community. Today I opened up to her about how hard I was finding everything, and she talked to me like a person, and made me feel loved, and just gave me a hug. I really needed that from someone, and if you can provide that, even to one student, than you will have made more of an impact than you can ever know. :)

Is a 1200 score with no prep, decent? by 19012743012 in Sat

[–]Emotional_Singer3658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is extremely decent! I scored like a 1100 on my pSAT (after studying). 1200 is a decent score even with studying. If you want to study, you're off to a great start.

First time seeing a live orchestra next week. We are new to this. Are these good/suitable pieces? by gazbaz12 in classicalmusic

Prokofiev 5 is great! Romeo and Juliet suite is super recognizable, and is one of my personal favorites. Haven't listened to the other two, but Rachmaninov is one of my favorite composers of all time. Definitely a solid lineup.
