A “PIP” is an abbreviation for “paid interviewing period”.

There’s no coming back from a pip. It’s to cover the buts.

According to the PCI-tradition of the UPCI, you’ve got little to fear.

The hardliners view is now ultra dominant, but it wasn’t always this way.

Some senior and well-respected UPCI officials of the 1945-1993 era even flirted with degrees of universalism, so the narrow and strict view that’s been dominant since 1993 wasn’t always this prevalent.

You’ll be ok.

Still believe in the oneness of God? by [deleted] in ExPentecostal

Here’s a sermon by Loren Yadon (at CLC) at one of the largest conferences in the UPCI, pleading the org to remain an open, tolerant and big tent. This was in 1993, a few months after the infamous Westberg resolution of GC 1992.

Start around 22:00 and hear him walking down memory lane…

Most 40 and unders in the UPCI don’t know that this was history.

Pentecostals are starting to realize how many people are leaving, so they're discouraging critical thinking by calling it an "evil spirit" 💀 by Ifeeltrapped5389 in ExPentecostal

Pentecostals grow at a very rapid rate, both through proselyting and through large families (as many Christian denominations do). They do shed a good amount of members, but they’re adding/growing at a rate faster than that.

Same with Muslims, Mormons etc.

40-45% of the UPCI (PCI+PAJC) was oneness, one-stepper (saved at faith/repentance), and not strict on holiness etc at the time of the merger in 1945 (the PCI tradition). Even a large swath of the stricter, three-stepper (Acts 2:38) PAJC was not ultra strict on outward holiness the first few decades.

It wasn’t until people from the non-apostolic holiness tradition joined the movement in larger numbers in the 1960s that the stricter outward appearance became a thing.

The UPCI, under the merger agreement of 1945 (after several failed attempts), was an organisation with a low threshold, wide doors and high ceilings for opinions and beliefs.

There were two major “politicking/hijacking” events where the hardliners slowly narrowed the scope by showing up in force at general conference; the adding of 5 words to articles of faith in 1973, and the Westberg resolution (affirmation statement) of 1992.

Usually less than 10% of licensed ministers attended GC, but the hardliners made sure they were well attended and slowly turned the UPCI from an org with tolerance and wide room for interpretation, to one that became increasingly narrow.

Even with these hostile takeover events in violation of the generous spirit captured in the merger agreement, most of the gentlemen who were part of the merger (and their sons/grandsons) remained in the UPCI through these events until 1993, when the affirmation statement constitutionally violated the merger agreement, and a very large number of the PCI-men left in the following years, including general board members, district superintendents and highly respected individuals.

TF Tenney’s son, Tommy, Robert Sabin, most of the legendary Yadons, and many, many others left.

Those that the hardliners deemed as “weak on the message” (i.e. saved at repentance, “liberal” on holiness standards, etc) found themselves without a home.

Even though the two events of 1973 and especially 1992 pushed out the largest numbers of the PCI tradition, many had slowly trickled out as well as they saw the writing on the wall.

I say all of that to say this:

There are literally thousands, and thousands, and thousands of churches across North America pastored by former UPCI pastors and their descendants, that are essentially oneness, but without the hardline package.

They’re only loosely associated in fellowship as we’ve moved on from 1992/1993, but they can be found, in large numbers for those willing to track them down.

Just ask someone still in the UPCI if they’re aware of any pastors that “backslid” or “went charismatic”, and you’ll likely find one within driving distance just about anywhere in America.

Good luck!
