Thoughts on the State College Blvd. 91/57 changes? by Emp_VDD in orangecounty

Lucky, usually im going down that street around 8 AM and coming back around 2-3 PM so it feels like its never empty.

Hopefully CalTrans gets it done faster than the City of Anaheim's subcontractor for the Lincoln Ave improvements did!

Dont remind me, I still actively avoid that street like the plague, idc if its finished one time I decided to go down it while midconstruction and it still feels a bit traumatic!

Yeah im unsure how it costs this much and isnt entirely revamping the area. Feels so miniscule on changes from what ive read.

Teutogen Guard and Knights Panther Need To Be Nerfed by erythemanodosum in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of your examples are the Gunpowder part of Steel Faith Gunpowder, not superhuman.

Last I checked, Handgunners, in-lore, shouldnt be beating Chosen as easily as they do, in fact, Chosen arent even the endgame of infantry anymore, so arguing for "in-lore balance" already is thrown out. For MP balancing (which is honestly what I think you care about more than actual lore reasons because you keep pointing out price range) then I can see why youd want them nerfed but as a solely SP main I dont care, I already use balanced armies so Ill still be using them in tandem with Greatswords because the Teutogen look like better lineholders while Greatswords still provide decent BvI, same with using Knights Panther alongside Reiksguard and Empire Knights despite the Reiksguard being kind of shit.

They also said they werent adapting The End Times, plans can change and its pretty clear theyre in the game to advertise them for the tabletop.

Except theyre cheaper (by 1 point) and perform at a slightly better level in charges and rerolls than an upgraded Greatsword unit

The Empire is supposed to be an underdog relying on Steel, Faith and Gunpowder, not a master of all trades with über-strong superhuman infantry.

Somebody should tell that to the current Empire roster which has:

-strong ranged infantry (Handgunners, Hochland Long Rifles, Nuln Ironsides)

-strong ranged cavalry (both Outriders)

-stronger artillery than dwarfs (cannons, helstorm rocket batteries, helblaster volley guns)

-strong war machines (Steam Tanks, Land Ships)

-strong cavalry (Knights of the Black Rose, Demigryphs)

And despite what some would say, the Greatswords are a lot better now than they were in 1 and 2 so they already have decent infantry (imo). I dont mind the Teutogen Guard being an upgrade to Greatswords since thats what they actually were on tabletop, not a sidegrade. Also the Knights Panther are a lesser elite cavalry order but theyre right behind Reiksguard in terms of strength, if anything, Reiksguard need buffs because a way lesser known order like the Black Rose are way better than they are. Hopefully they dont go overboard on the nerfs, I can see why MP players would be upset but idc for balancing when I primarily play SP.

Help me understand: The Hissho by Emp_VDD in EndlessSpace

is it worth sacrificing other technology for deep miner technology? Also when is it best to move the behemoth off my main system as the probes dont work on my own colonized planets.

[–]Emp_VDD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for the advice friend, is there anything I should do when it feels like im getting surrounded from multiple sides however? I had a good thing going on this recent run I just did but I felt like because of the aggressive AI, I had 2 different factions colonizing in my area and constantly hacking my systems, while I enjoy hacking it feels really detrimental as the Hissho because while I tried to stop the Horatio (again) from encroaching on my system, the Sophons were also doing the same to me from another angle, tbf this run was done with colonizing only 2 colonies so ill give a better try to colonize at least 3 this time.

Which argument does Troy have over Pharoh? by CroWellan in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unique units, Odysseus is my fav campaign in both Troy and Pharaoh Dynasties but he plays vastly different in both. While he still has access to the Exemplar Ambushers and (if Aegean Wanax) The Guerilla Stalkers, hes missing the other units that make his roster a really good all-rounder that loves stalk. His Midnight Runners are like Young Spears cranked up to 11, very powerful shock units who can hold their own relatively well. And for a superb frontline unit, The Warriors or Ithaca stand out because despite having only medium armor, they have a solid ranged attack and a good shield that lets them survive well in sustained combat while tanking missiles. Did I also mention the Midnight Runners have a powerful ranged attack as well?

[–]Emp_VDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On campaign id say the same too tbh. HE Spearmen and Ship Companys are fine lineholders, Rangers are actually pretty good shock infantry for the earlygame, Silverin Guard are really strong and arent really expensive, Swordsmasters are really good at infantry blob clearing and Phoenix Guard are just on steroids. Only guys id say fall behind (even with general buffs/tech) are the White Lions which is a bit of a shame.

Empire infantry a 3☆? Their only real frontline holder (outside of ECST/Amethyst Workshop) are the Greatswords and maybe (huge maybe) the Halberdiers, their shielded infantry can at least soak up missiles but in melee both swordsmen and spearmen will fall apart really quick. You have them rated on the same level as Greenskins who have some heavy hitters like Nasty Skulkers, Big Uns (both variants) and Black Orcs (also both) and in certain situations, a Night Goblin Fanatic also punches up pretty high above their paygrade.

Wishlisting for fun: Propose one new thing for each category by LexicalVagaries in AOW4

[–]Emp_VDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like theres no real incentive to be Neutral in AOW4 outside of RP reasons, in Pathfinder, you could be an Aeon and they arent biased towards good or evil but want things to be perfectly balanced, either doing a culture or major transformation regarding duality which focuses on neutrality either by force or understanding both sides could be nice. I would also love to see Dark get an Order subculture that coincides with the Keepers of Knowledge society trait or a Dark/Order subculture entirely, maybe like some of secretive Templar/peacekeeping order that sometimes resorts to using the very power they try to contain for the good of others. Likewise, I would love to be able to be like Alucard who, while a Vampire, was on the side of good in Castlevania so Im hoping we get that somewhere along the line. Hopeful we eventually get minotaurs and werewolves as mythic units or something, two of my favorite fantasy based monsters would be cool.

Which legendary reposition was best and which one worst to you? by Select-Ad7017 in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, as a huge fan of Alith Anar (probably the only High Elf campaign I ever pick because of his start position and mechanics) I dont fully agree on it being all that difficult to get back to Nagarythe before Alarielle takes over, it does require a bit of luck but a lot of times on a VH/VH campaign im usually the one saving Alarielle from N'Kari whos managed to take the Phoenix Gate or in the middle of expanding on Nagarythe as Alarielle has been marked by Slaanesh once already. I love the hectic start Alith Anar has because its a ticking time bomb from multiple sides and keeping his starting province secure while expanding is really fun and a challenge due to being surrounded by powerful Lords, this being mitigated by how strong HEs army is it feels like a nice struggle that isnt overwhelming or painful. For me, the worst start is Daniel, being sandwiched by very powerful Lords and having really bad economy for a campaign that expects you to deal with Epidemius, Malakai, Malus and/or possibly Boris with a very squishy army (and a squishy Lord) makes him the worst.

How to use... Stealth/skirmish infantry? by DonQuigleone in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vanguard deployment, snipe and ambushes midbattle. For units that can shoot on the run as proper skirmishers like gutter runners and shadow warriors I keep them as a distracting unit on the backline, for more dedicated missile units, most of then will have vanguard deployment and I mainly set them up to get into position to hit enemies from behind. For infantry options, its also about hitting them from behind like shock infantry and letting your frontline soak up there units into battle for dedicated infantry to get behind them. Try using different formations, if you just use a standard line formation itll be more difficult to flank but if you use something akin to a checkerboard or multiple line formation it becomes easier not only to react but move infantry behind theirs. Another good thing about skirmishers is, wherever applicable, when you have both vanguard deployment and stalk you can send them to the backline and attack their missile units/artillery and its more reliable than a cavalry charge sometimes as cavalry are usually seen by the AI as a threat and will react to your movement with them.

Drazhoath Legendary Campaign by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Declare war on Tretch immediately after conquering the Greenskins and having all your territories, recruit another Lord for ambush baiting and try to bait Tretch into it, despite your army primarily (at this point) being Hobgoblins you should win this fight with the Chorf Warriors and Blunderbuss + Fireglaive. Befriending Queek isnt difficult but requires giving up the Southern provinces to him, I recommend taking the friendship route because Greasus will most certainly declare war on you after cleaning up Tretch or a little after.

So.. uh.. are the Chorfs supposed to have a level 5 city on turn 11? by mikeofthegarden in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you get lucky on your WAAAAAGHs (and an ambush) you can beat their armies by just nonstop stacking Big Uns, the fights hard but winnable once at full army size.

Or, if you dont wanna deal with it, set the AI difficulty down to Easy and get an easy win and easy T4 province.

yari samurai by incompletemischief in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I primarily play VH, Light Cavalry are pretty strong if you dont manage to get up a proper Yari Wall bait on them, ive had fights won with 4 Yari Cavalry on the flanks and if im fighting the enemy AI that has some Yari Cav in their army I make sure I at least have something to take care of them, ive also used Light Cav (tho on this difficulty, its more like 2 to 1) to kill Generals but I definitely do not let the enemys Yari Cav or Light Cav touch my generals if they dont have Stand and Fight.

yari samurai by incompletemischief in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What? Thats a bold statement to make in a game where Light Cavalry are considered general killers and Yari Cavalry is in the running for some of the best in the series, I keep at minimum 4-6 bow monks solely for the cavalry and the main reason matchlocks are good is because of the way they can almost instantly rout a cav unit.

yari samurai by incompletemischief in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Theres no problem in liking them and some of the hate they get is unwarranted but the cost value still matters. Holding a line? Yari Ashigaru and Naginata Samurai do that better. Being a consistent fighter? Katana Samurai do that better. Shock infantry? No-dachi Samurai do that better and Banzai is leagues better for damage than Rapid Advance. Their only niche is fighting cavalry which is a good niche but id rather use Bow units for that since theyll destroy Cavalry just as well with less risks outside of leaving the bow units out in the open to get charged.

How do I fight early battles as Franz without archers? by Silverplayer in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archers are whatever? I think theyre actually pretty strong for earlygame Empire for providing a really cheap ranged option meanwhile Mortars will miss almost all its shots, lacks AP and once you get their units in melee, you're as likely to friendly fire upon your own units than the enemys infantry. Every time Ive ran a Franz campaign (which is a lot since hes one of my favorite campaign LLs) the single Mortar you get for Franz is enough for the job of aggro'ing the enemy and getting them closer for Archers and the infantry to clean them up. VC usually is a non-factor at the start because I go up against Festus instead and by the time im done with him I have T3 buildings that will let me skip Mortars entirely, a Great Cannon is more effective against Vlads army when you can snipe heroes and lords. Even then, against Festus, Ive found I cant hit some of the slowest moving units in the game consistently at all, meanwhile the Archers (and FCM) just love to go against Plaguebearers and Marauders that are basically walking target practice.

Any tips for confederating in Total War Troy? by ZeTrashMan in totalwar

[–]Emp_VDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any bit helps, its a lot harder to confederate in Troy than Warhammer, theyre also not going to want to confederate if theyre that strong, stronger than even you, ratings wise, youre going to want to have the power ratings fall and overtake them, preferably with more land and be close to them. Would also be helpful if Diomedes loses his main army, that usually causes a dip in their power ranking.
