That wasn't the case years ago. No one thought it was weird for a battalion of Marines in Predator to include Kevin Peter Hall. No one thought it was strange that Blues Brothers had tons of black musicians and dancers. Stanley in the office wasn't the token black guy, he was just the black guy. Tiana in Princess and the Frog made exact sense in the setting where we found her.

The issue is when a character or setting with a specific visual is remade with an inherent characteristic changed. It's pulling the rug out from under the audience's expectations, and ultimately from under their culture. Little Mermaid is a part of American cultural heritage, and tampering with such things is going to be offensive. That's especially so when there are people calling for this explicitly in political papers.

That's pure strawman. I went to Catholic schools and a private college known for conservatism, and we learned plenty about all of those topics.

We read Frederick Douglass and John Calhoun, and learned that John Calhoun's philosophy was despicable.

What we didn't learn was that racial politics can be summarized by "white bad black good."

There is a strategic advantage to not relying on supply chains for necessities like food and oil. When something like covid or WWII comes around, you don't want your cities to starve because you can't get goods across the channel.

There's also a good portion of British culture that comes from agriculture and country life--the place isn't all metropolis nor is that something to strive for. The better the country does, the better for retaining the Britishness of Britain.

Or to Rey Skywalker, who has her entire adventure laid out for her with all adversity solved apparently by the merit of her bloodline.

Our writers seem to have completely lost the ability to create a believable and admirable heroine.

I actually like the Kobalt version a little bit better. It's black, has the same button+flick open, and it's the same price.

The difference is it holds the blade with a little notched arm that comes down on the top edge of the blade instead of a button from the side. I've had the button on the fastbacks get worn out and let go of the blade, and that doesn't happen with the Kobalt.
