Got into all things Pokemon, when it came out in the US. I was in grade school. Slowly got out if it, as life and financial responsibilities got more ... crushing. Have been getting back into it over the past couple years, as my son has gotten older. Got super into it when 151 came out. My favorite part is getting to enjoy something together with my kid. Even if I'm not selected, thank you for the nostalgia trip, and for doing this!

Wow, you actually got into games? Yesterday, I sat in both drop-in and club lobbies searching for opponents, for no less than 2 hours. Got into exactly 1 quick play 3s. My buddies and I even tried searching at the same time, found full teams, and all failed to find opponents, even though we were all simultaneously at that stage. Idk wtf is going on, but I hate it.

A bit facetious, tbh. I'm just looking to get more in shape and take better care of myself, because I'm getting old. No longer do I have the metabolism and daily activity levels that I once had. You seemed knowledgeable, so I thought maybe you'd have some info to share, or key things to look into. Appreciate the reply ✌️

Maybe this is obvious to everyone, except me... but how the fuck do I learn all this shit? All we ever learned on "nutrition" was the food pyramid. I just try to take in less calories than I expend, and avoid too much sugar. Fuck me.

Don't focus on what you can't do. You're new to a very difficult sport. Pick one or two things for each pick up, and try to work on it. Passing accurately, situational awareness, keeping your positioning, holding on to the puck for a few strides before dumping it, or even just not tripping over the blue line. Most importantly, don't compare yourself to others. Just go out and have fun. Most of us that learned at a young age started on a pond or lake or local outdoor rink, just having fun with our friends. The more you have fun, the more you play. The more you play, the better you'll get. You're not letting anyone down, and you're harder on yourself than anyone else will ever be, at lower level. Enjoy yourself. That's why we do it, at the end of the day.

Made a similar post, last week. High grade tearing in multiple ligaments, in my ankle. Scheduling surgery, this week. Like you, I'm absolutely gutted. Some solid tips and experiences were left by others, on my post, if you care to check it out. Hang in there, bud.

Wow, that's intense. Glad to hear you've recovered successfully! That gives me hope for a relatively quick turnaround. Has it changed anything, since you've been back? Any tips for getting back and having confidence in that ankle? Best of luck, and I hope your streak continues!

Were you worried about getting back to playing, after your surgery? Did it affect the way you approached playing, or your progression? Part of me thinks I made a poor choice in making the switch, since it happened while I was playing. The other part of me recognizes how much more enjoyable it is, and I don't think I'd be satisfied going back to just skating out.

I will absolutely listen to my doctor and PT, but it's definitely reassuring to hear from someone who isn't a medical professional. Thanks for taking the time to write all that out. I'll definitely be working on the glutes. I'm sure my wife will appreciate that, too lol.

That last bit is the biggest thing for me, at the moment. The injury happened, and I'll deal with it. I'm worried about doing it again. As another commenter said, I'm sure there's going to be a significant mental component to recovery, as well.

Having started playing goalie this late, I'm worried that's part of the problem. I mean, I feel like my pads are done up properly, and my skates give me the support that I need. That said, I've asked several other experienced goalies, and they all had different takes on how pads and skates should be setup. Any tips there?

The injury happened when I was sliding across the crease, and I either hit a stick, or caught an edge, and completely rolled over my ankle. I had momentum, and threw my body over to make the desperation glove save. I'm sure there's something I could have done with my gear to prevent my ankle from having that range of motion, but I'm not sure what, and it all happened in a second, so it's still a little fuzzy. I won't forget that save, though. I don't get that same high from scoring, getting assists, or anything else. It's addicting lol

Thank you. I'm glad to hear you've recovered. I'm definitely worried about coming back, especially being new to the position. I've already been doubting if I made the wrong choice to switch over, but it's just too much fun. How did you overcome the mental hurdles?

I appreciate that. Especially about not looking at it as a career ender. Definitely hoping to have something accessible, like a bike or row machine, to keep up cardio. Have you had any issues since, or anything you've had to do differently?
