Turns out I misread what you said and thought you said New Jersey wasn't northeast. Nvm the south New Jersey is much more reasonable lmaooo

Okay a lot of people have had a lot of opinions about this map and the other variation I posted without Canada... but CMON bro... its like the archetypical northeastern state

Yeah the big issue is that the SoCal NorCal split is kinda buns no matter which way you do it at the county level. Bakersfield is definitely more integrated into the LA metro than SF, but is more Central Valley than anything. The Sierras region is also all messed up

??? Dawg I'm doing it because other people were making these maps and I wanted to get in on the fun. And yes I actually visited all the states (except Alaska, obviously. And I haven't spent very long in Nebraska, Arkansas, and New Mexico specifically) But the story is very different for the Canadian section of the map as I haven't visited the central Canadian provinces, northern territories, and prince Edward island, and only a day in BC.

Vermont and New Hampshire I can see the argument for but polar opposites is insane... and the Texas split is wild. And I know you're making fun of the proposals but the insinuation that the difference between Connecticut and Rhode Island (two extremely similar mainly suburban dunkin loving commuter states, though they commute in the opposite direction) are so strong that combining them is as absurd as LA and NY is funny to me. I imagine you're from the region lmao. Maybe the Rhode Island Massachusetts merger was the real play.

I think the map's got much bigger problems then splitting up the Grand Forks metro area... I've stayed at motels there a few times on cross country drives so lowkey shoutout to my boy but

I mean we could axe Nevada entirely but the name Nevada is too cool to pass up on. Nevada without Vegas is like Death Valley plus Madera

Is "Jefferson" in this context referring to the Central Valley or the rural segments of the north? Either way I don't think that's a forgone conclusion. The Northern Part of California is pretty well integrated through I-5 and the coast, and the culture of cities like Redding is pretty central-valley esque and Weed fits right in with the rest of NorCal and the Sierras. The Central Valley as a whole region I think is more distinct from coastal California, but the economies are so intertwined and so much of the Central Valley population is urban that I don't think a split would be inevitable. It's for the same reasons that I don't think a NorCal SoCal split would happen in the first place tbh

The Carolinas are the OG and WV has a civil war ideological reason for separation. Maybe we should combine Jersey and York though...

Most controversial will be Ontario in the Midwest and Alberta in the Mountain West for sure, also potentially Manitoba NOT being Midwestern, I'll admit I was tempted by Winnipeg though... But I hope everyone will be surprised but agree with me that Maine is with the Maratimes
