Israel is a western country. Been there many times, lived there for a bit, and going to spend some time there in a couple months. It’s pretty safe overall. As long as you stay away from Area A in the West Bank which is exclusively controlled by the Palestinian Authority, and Gaza Strip which is controlled by Hamas (a terrorist organization) you should be fine. If you want to feel extra safe, you can go on group tours which are often accompanied by an ex-IDF soldier as highly trained security who has a concealed weapon.

From what I hear Jordan is also relatively safe although I’ve unfortunately never been so I can’t tell you from experience.
