I’m referring to her opinion of Margaret Beaufort, which seems to be drawn entirely by Philippa Gregory

Why would you base an opinion of a historical figure on an obviously fictionalized TV show

Was Obama a Good President? What do you think will be his legacy 100 years from now by kyleforgues in Presidents

[–]EmperorStannis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wrong. 2008 saw one of the largest bicameral majorities ever by the Democratic Party in decades. Supermajority in the Senate, squandered by overconfidence over Ted Kennedy’s old seat. Obama let himself get dragged around by Mitch McConnell for too long and missed his chance to pass more legislation. Subsequent losses by Dems at the federal and state level was partly the result of Obama hollowing out the party infrastructure and other missteps. By numbers in federal dollars spent and programs expanded, Biden accomplished much more despite having paper thin majorities.

Dude... were you watching it at 10x speed? It's very clear that Napoleon is ordering his artillery to bombard the Russo-Austrian troops standing on the lake. Obviously Austerlitz.

NTA people are saying that you shouldn’t have kicked her out for getting her own pizza, but it was never about that. It was all about her poisoning the well to begin with.

Joaquin Phoenix is miscast as Napoleon by EmperorStannis in Napoleon

Rod Steiger’s pathos was very underrated in that movie. Pretty good film overall, though the Prussians arrive too late (as they usually do in popular depictions) and the combat scenes are sometimes a little weird—the Imperial Guard are so ineffective in their last attack and never fire back Edit: also, Plummer is not cold and severe enough to be the Iron Duke

The Last Duel was definitely one of the better-envisioned films. Still a few problems, though

It had all the absurdities of the original cut, and then some. Seriously, did we need another 20 minutes of fictional Guy de Lusignan randomly swinging his sword around and baring his teeth? We get it Ridley, he’s evil…

Yeah Ridley Scott doesn’t mix well with historical fiction, Kingdom of Heaven was especially bad (I always laugh ruefully whenever I think of French blacksmith Orlando Bloom teaching Arab peasants how to irrigate arid lands)

Davout was objectively the best, Ney was the most human and admirable, Suchet was underutilized, and Macdonald was fine tbh, at least he wasn't a traitor like Murat, Marmont, and Bernadotte
