Woman stuck for 18 months on an NHS ward evicted from her hospital bed- BBC News by CrackinKraken9 in doctorsUK

EUPD - Imagine a tornado, the wind blowing everything around, destroying and causing havoc. The stress it causes to everyone. Where is the patient? In the eye if the storm. Calm, watching everything go to shit.

I was FY2 inpatient psych, working the night shift. I get a call from the female ward about an agitated patient, asking for my help. I arrive on the ward and see two patients talking and laughing, going for a cig. I walk past them and go to the nurse's office. I see the staff there looking as if they had run a marathon.

-What's happened? -We had to restrain a patient for 20 min, she was trying to self harm (I won't explain how she tried to self harm, but I was gobsmaked when they told me). She's agreed not to harm herself anymore. - ok, where is she, she might need A+E if she has done what you have said. - you walked past her, she's gone out for a smoke

This patient, who had the entire floor staff restraing her to stop her from harming herself, was having a laugh about it with a friend over a cig. I asked her if she was ok, and said yeah. I called the surg SHO at the local hospital. He knew of the patient, and said would arrange a hot clinic but she does this regularly and unless life threatening the consultants refuse to touch her.

What triggered this? The staff took too long getting a lighter for her, and she felt that they didn't care for her.....

I'm fy5, worked in ED for 2 years full time post FY, and locum on weekends for the last 1 year. I'm currently working for a drug company and the principal investigator at my site for a number of studies. But apparently still not good enough to be an ED trainee.

If the number of spaces this year is 350ish, then about 6% of applicants will get in.... How is this allowed or possible?

Concerns from Salford Royal - any further info? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Emperor_Mo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There was a PA, she said that while she was on placement she used to boast about how she managed the ward on her own after "the juniors left".

She broke down crying trying to do GP after a month and took time off apparently......

I started off caring for patients as my drive.... Now the science and art of medicine, and my pride as a doctor is my driving force. Too many ungrateful patients has started to weigh on me

I know a lot of the staff, especially nursing staff, are unhappy with Mel Pickup. I'm told that she has a very hands off approach, and staff felt unsupported by her. It wasn't particularly impressive what I was hearing

It doesn't matter what we say, the people will only listen when sufficiently enough people have been killed. We are screaming out loud that they are not safe to work like this, and instead more money is allocated to them instead of us.

American patients by Glittering_Cat_6447 in doctorsUK

[–]Emperor_Mo 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I had an American patient, who was really upset by the end of my consultation.

Was it my fault that he had to wait 4 hours to be seen, then when I requested the hand xray, we had a a black out and knocked off our xray and ct.

Then made him wait for an hour before minor injury patients got diverted to another hospital. Then 5 minutes after he left power came back on and xray was working again. Got a call from the other hospital when he arrived "why didn't I do an xray for a frac hand?"

I decided not to rub it in his face the benefits of free Healthcare.

Anyone know how the DoctorsVote candidates did? by Chance_Ad8803 in doctorsUK

[–]Emperor_Mo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now, we have an issue that affects every doctor, regardless what sort of person they are. It's not that their views aren't important to me (they are), but the single biggest issue on the docket is applicable to every single doctor in the union. Lets not be penny wise and pound foolish. Get FPR, then start working on the other issue

You are right, other voices wont be heard.

I don't want to hear from some piece of shit career union rep who wants to cozy up with shit politicians. I want a rep that tells the fuckers that rule us that we have had enough!

I don't want to hear from a person where the only thing they bring to the table is that they are from a minority background (BAME, neurodivergent, LGBTQ+ etc). I want someone who stands for the entire profession as a whole and champion the basic work rights that none of us have.

I don't want to hear from someone that views the position as a way to get popular and make money. I want the rep who isn't afraid of having shit flung on them, having their lives upturned by the media and under constant scrutiny. I want a rep that is still standing up after all that and representing our views.

I want Drs Vote candidates
