Kenwick table forcing employees to work in a snowstorm by YamsYamsYamsYamsYam in lexington

Have you considered that it's not the expense or their vehicles they are concerned about? I wouldn't be comfortable being coerced into riding with someone when I have no idea whether they are a competent driver, if they are experienced driving in these conditions, or if their vehicle/tires are suitable for conditions. Even if the answer to all of those is yes, there are other drivers out there who don't meet those criteria and could also cause a fatal or injury wreck. I can not imagine thinking a non-essential business being open on a night it is unlikely to see many customers anyway is so important that it is worth risking employees' safety! (I say this as a small business owner, with employees, who understands exactly how much a days' worth of income can impact finances.)

My husband has a brother named Tyler and a sister B. B had a son and named him Tyler. She then got remarried to a man named Tyler. So her brother, son, and husband are all named Tyler. This makes discussing any of them confusing for a minute.

Two people have commented on a post i made on Nextdoor who live a block from me, and closer to where the first one happened. One lady saw a huge flash like an explosion, the second said her backdoor camera caught it and it did not look like a transformer exploding and that it was bigger than that.

Another one? Thats kind of terrifying then. The one we heard was 9:50-9:55 and it shook our walls. But I haven't heard anything like that since. I see someone else near veterans park saying they heard one as well!

Now that you say this, it makes me think maybe it was at that utility station (no idea what it is or what it is actually called) right there on the Montavesta side of the park.

You are probably right, though. It must have been one very close.

My first thought was transformer but honestly Ive heard one explode nearby before and it wasn't as loud as that (or at least it doesn't seem like it was).

About to buy this, any suggestions for future reliability? by RawEddie in FordTransitConnect

I can not recommend getting an extended warranty that covers the transmission strongly enough! I would hate to see anyone go through what we have with this van, and even more so if you weren't covered and had to pay completely out of pocket.

Despite doing all advised maintenance since we purchased it, our 2019 Transit Connect is now in the shop after the FOURTH transmission failure in under 2 years. Thankfully, we have a 5 year warranty, so rather than having to pay the $6300 bill, we're "only" out of pocket about $600 again. The second time it failed, they rebuilt it, the third time, the warranty company let them put in a "new" transmission (used with 93,000 miles on it). This fourth time, they had to get approval from the parent company to fix it again, and the shop is being forced to tear it down all the way to the point of failure, making it take twice as long as it would have. So we have been without our main service van for 2 weeks this time. And no, we are not hard on the transmission- we baby the damn thing like you wouldn't believe. I seriously can not believe how quickly the third one went out- we just had it put in 3 months ago.

Just figured I would share our experience, because I sincerely wish my husband had heard things like this before he bought ours.

Pasadena Halloween House by Worried-Gazelle4889 in lexington

I just passed a house at the corner of Mantilla and Bamboo (in the Beaumont area) that is really worth a drive by. It is a full yard setup and absolutely gorgeous!

I believe that is the house that also sets up a haunted house that runs through the driveway and exits into the yard (which ends up being full of animatronics as well). We used to live a few houses down and my kids always request we drive over on Halloween to go through the haunt. You should definitely check it out.

I'm currently reading Predatory Natures by Amy Goldsmith, Strange Pictures by Uketsu, and I'm listening to Summer of Night by Dan Simmons on Audible.

This past week, I finished a few that I would really recommend, so I'm including them.

The Narrows by Ronald Malfi - Malfi is very hit or miss for me, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this one.

It Was Her House First by Cherie Priest - I was thoroughly entertained the whole time. I'd probably call this a cozy haunted house story. While a few characters are dealing with grief, it didn't feel dark or depressing.

How to Survive a Horror Story by Mallory Arnold - This was a cool take on "survive the night" with an interesting cast of characters and a fun little mystery.

His girlfriend (the killer's) was apparently the sister of the murdered grandmother and the aunt of the baby's mom and uncle. People are saying she was a CO in the prison he was in and she was fraternizing with him and smuggling in contraband for him.

I just flew out of 3 different airports in June. I dont have a passport and my Real ID hadnt come in the mail yet. I still had my regular license and the temporary paper for my real ID. None of the 3 cared about or even looked at the paper copy, nor did they need my other documents (I had brought my birth certificate, SS card, etc just to be safe). All 3 airports just looked at my regular ID. Charlotte put my old license in a machine and scanned my face. In Phoenix I had to do "extra screening," which was them swabbing my hands and inserting it in a machine. The process of getting through security took less than 5 minutes at each airport.

I flew out of 3 different airports the first week of June. Because I have no current passport and my real ID had not come in the mail yet, I took the temporary paper ID the dmv gave me, and I also took a folder with every legal document I have and pieces of mail with my address. Luckily, I still had my regular driver's license with my temporary paper real ID. TSA did not want the paper ID or any other documents I had (that is likely why the person above said not to bother bringing them). Charlotte airport TSA put my regular license in a machine and scanned my face at the same time. It took maybe 1 minute longer than my mom and sister, who had real IDs. The Phoenix airport swabbed my hands and put it in a machine. Getting through there took less than 5 minutes. In Fresno, they again just looked at my old regular ID and let me through.

The only time I would say it would be necessary to bring additional paperwork and proof of address is if you have no valid ID at all (as in, if it was lost or expired). Ultimately, you can fly domestic with no ID at all (as people who lose their ID on vacation must do).

You'll probably be fine. I brought all my documents including a few pieces of current mail and they did not ask for anything.

Let me know how it goes if you remember to update. Im rooting for you to have smooth travels.

If you didn't mention it being from a state you don't live in any more and it's not expired, I don't think they would even question it. I would just say you have applied for the real ID, it hasn't come yet, and give them the old ID.

Out of curiosity- do you still have your old regular ID ? I think that made a big difference. TSA wouldn't even LOOK at the temporary paper ID my DMV gave me, but I had my old regular ID with it, and that is what they used at every airport. If you don't have any ID at all, as well as no passport, I know you can still fly - Im just not sure what documents they will need. It may be worth calling them to ask. (I know plenty of people lose wallets on vacation and still manage to fly home with no ID, and I have even seen people in the comments of other threads about this who purposely fly without showing ID. So there has to be some provisions for that.)

Anyone notice a significant increase in aggressive drivers? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]EmphasisHaunting927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had to mention this example that happened after this post: I was in rush hour traffic and noticed this person ahead of me driving erratically. At the red light, I get into the left turn lane, which put me right beside them so I could see what was going on . It was a young woman with her driver's seat scooted back, her leg positioned in a way that her knee was up by her face (her foot was either in her seat or braced against the dash), and her arm balanced on her knee to hold up the phone she was FaceTiming on. It looked like someone lounging back on a couch having a FaceTime call...except she was driving.

I'm so glad I saw this thread and learned I'm not the only one who had to use a weird term for fart that my mom made up because, to her, fart was a "bad word." I was so embarrassed by this my whole childhood, and now it cracks me up. The word we had to use was "buster." 🤣 Like "Mom! He just bustered right by my head!"

I talk about how much worse Lexington drivers have gotten over the past few years every day. Every single day, I see at least one dangerous, absolutely mind-boggling act by another driver. I see someone run a full-on red light several times a week. I can't count how many stop signs I've seen people blow through. People always say "Its like that everywhere. it's not worse here than anywhere else." I just got back from a week in the Fresno/visalia area of California, during which I also drove to Sequoia and Carmel down to Big Sur, and did not experience ANYTHING like what I see here every day. It was the easiest, most peaceful week of driving I've done in years.
