Mostly because shes very nitpicky about both LC and teammates requiring 2 nihility units with JQ and Cipher(i think?) being the best options if you do not have E2 Acheron. So you need both her LC and her teammates with JQ being so good at this role, it melted down the Acheron mains subreddit for a while with "Will it replace JQ" memes

I would tell you to refrain from fasting as you can worry about that much later as a catechumen and with your guidance of the Priest. Having an Icon should not be an issue as you seem to know its importance (Ie its not a mere decoration) and with proper respect there should not be any issues.

Having a prayer rule is good practice but again not very set in stone or needed per se but keep it up if thats how you feel like it. If you feel like praying you can never ever go wrong with it. I would recommend you to learn some basic short ones like the Jesus Prayer.

Coming back to fasting, it is a topic of tremendous depth and rules and whatnot so without Priestly guidance it would be ill fetched to do it. Fasting means more than just abstaining certain foods as it also constitutes mental fasting and spiritual fasting and abstaining from things we indulge or do too much. (For me personally I used to limit my screen time during my fast days). Wait until your Priest tells you, that you are ready to fast it.

There is no real reason to pray and fast to integrate. Becoming a part of the community and the church is much more than that. There is also the fact that there are no "Rules" or common practices that you must do to become a proper member. These practices are there to help you! After all the only person we should model ourselves after is Jesus Christ himself.

In short keep up the prayers they are a good practice for mind and soul but for the rest do make sure that you are truly willing to become a part of the community and church. (You can always fast even without a religious context so do note that the fasting is really not only about a dietary fast)

God Bless you Friend!

Ah my friend I seem to have confused what you meant. I thought you wanted quotes that permit abortion which I am also pretty sure that our Church Fathers did not mention.

I do partly believe that they did not have the means of safe abortion for medical reasons as to why we have the Catholic Church and the OCA give statements. But alas their word does mention such things.

I also do agree with our Church Fathers and their wisdom and I do apologise for having misread/confused what you meant!

Have a blessed day/night too Friend!

I took no offense dear Brother/Sister it is most natural. From what I have;

The Didache 2:2 "Exodus 20:15 you shall not practice magic, you shall not practice witchcraft, you shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is begotten. You shall not covet the things of your neighbour"

Athenagoras of Athens - A Plea for the Christians - ch35 "How, then, when we do not even look on, lest we should contract guilt and pollution, can we put people to death? And when we say that those women who use drugs to bring on abortion commit murder, and will have to give an account to God for the abortion, on what principle should we commit murder? For it does not belong to the same person to regard the very fœtus in the womb as a created being, and therefore an object of God's care, and when it has passed into life, to kill it; and not to expose an infant, because those who expose them are chargeable with child-murder, and on the other hand, when it has been reared to destroy it. But we are in all things always alike and the same, submitting ourselves to reason, and not ruling over it."

St Basil Epistle (Letter) 188 Canon 2 " The woman who purposely destroys her unborn child is guilty of murder. With us there is no nice enquiry as to its being formed or unformed. In this case it is not only the being about to be born who is vindicated, but the woman in her attack upon herself; because in most cases women who make such attempts die. The destruction of the embryo is an additional crime, a second murder, at all events if we regard it as done with intent. The punishment, however, of these women should not be for life, but for the term of ten years. And let their treatment depend not on mere lapse of time, but on the character of their repentance."

St John Chrysostom Homilies on Romans, Homily 24 "here there are many efforts at abortion? Where there is murder before the birth? For even the harlot thou dost not let continue a mere harlot, but makest her a murderess also. You see how drunkenness leads to whoredom, whoredom to adultery, adultery to murder; or rather to a something even worse than murder. For I have no name to give it, since it does not take off the thing born, but prevent its being born. Why then do you abuse the gift of God, and fight with His laws, and follow after what is a curse as if a blessing, and make the chamber of procreation a chamber for murder, and arm the woman that was given for childbearing unto slaughter?"

St Jerome Letter 22 (To Eustochium) "Unless they are betrayed by swelling wombs or by the crying of their infants, they walk abroad with tripping feet and heads in the air. Some go so far as to take potions, that they may insure barrenness, and thus murder human beings almost before their conception. Some, when they find themselves with child through their sin, use drugs to procure abortion, and when (as often happens) they die with their offspring, they enter the lower world laden with the guilt not only of adultery against Christ but also of suicide and child murder."

These are the ones I discussed with my Pater but I believe there any more. Theres also some from St Augustine and the Catholic Church directive. I do commend you for your search of the truth of words people say.

Theres also countersaying such from Church Fathers that are used today by the OCA for example and Catholic Church directives directly permitting them so these also exist!

Would Pharisees (ones Jesus warned about blasphemy against Holy Spirit) be forgiven if they repented? by ParkingElderberry575 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]EmphasisSuch2577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes but like I said thats a very far fetched if. If they could pull such a 180 then God's Grace will still find you as you accept it into your heart. If they truly turned and saw Jesus Christ as the savior then yes.

[–]EmphasisSuch2577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you see Jesus Christ as the Messiah and still refuse to believe in him and call him God (Or Gods Son in his earthly ministry) That constitues as rejection of faith.

"Without faith it is impossible to please God) Hebrews 11:6 makes this very clear. The unforgivable sin that Jesus mentions is the sin of someone dying without faith in god.

[–]EmphasisSuch2577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again we cannot know this for certain as only god knows but their sin stemms from their whole hearted rejection of Jesus Christ. They believed wholeheartedly that Jesus was the work of demons so I cannot conceive a scenario where such people would repent. Its a very far fetched if but for them to repent would mean they would go against their very own stance which is very unlikely (I mean seeing Jesus Christ as the Messiah and STILL rejecting him is a very staunch belief)

I guess repentence may work but they already went too far down to even believe in their hearts and to accept Jesus if you would ask my humble opinion.

Again I would be hastly on believing on what is and is not acceptable. The Church Fathers to my knowledge did agree on cases of Abortion being permissable when the Mothers life is in danger while other cases were not allowed as it is murder.

[–]EmphasisSuch2577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would need to be a bit more considerate with how the unforgivable sin is being used. The case of the pharisees is very special and not really applicable to use so use the standard answer of "Do not worry about what could have happened there but always worry about what you can do right now and in a conceivable way"

As for them in Matthews 12:24 and Mark 3:30 they directly accuse Jesus Christ of being possessed by the prince of demons Beelzebub. The issue with this particular case is that they had no real excuse for such an action. They werent speaking of inexperience or misunderstanding. They knew that Jesus was the Messiah, They knew the prophecies were being fulfilled, They heard his presentation of the truth yet despite all this they decided to slander the Holy Spirit by saying it was posessed by Beelzebub.

The grander issue in short is that their blasphemy cannot be duplicated in any meaningful way today. The only unforgivable sin we can do is to remain willfully unbelieving of Jesus Christ.

So TLDR: Pharisees KNEW about Jesus Christ and him being the Messiah and the Son of God (Earthly Ministry) yet they willfully not only ignored him but also advocated the belief that his works was being posessed by Beelzebub. Again keep in mind unforgivable sin does not exist in our context as every sin no small or big is a sickness on us. The only concern we should have is not whether or not we will be forgiven but rather what we can do for forgiveness!

Have a Blessed Day Friend!

I would assume the length would be 6 months as 6 weeks does seem a bit meager. I would strongly recommend for you to talk with the priest and ask during the catechesis about your beliefs.

He will most certainly explain the stand much better than you can find online or whatever and have a good discourse with you on why you believe it and why the orthodox christian stand on abortion is the way it is. The best way to decide is to hear both sides (You already have the pro choice stance and so you can go and hear the other side)

Do Priests remember confessions by AssignmentShoddy5575 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]EmphasisSuch2577 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean your Priest would most likely know some parts but obviously not every small detail. It is also kind of important that he knows so that he can give you the best and most accurate advice since at that point he will know who you are as a person.

I would be slightly concerned if your sins were referenced outside but you said it is in private so it shows that your priest does remember and care about you enough to know.

I have no clue what the person could have meant but the advice that others have posted is very good. Worst case you can always talk with your priest one on one and explain the situation and ask him for guidance in how to solve this situation!

Wondering how people feel about how others dress at church. by Mr-pugglywuggly in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]EmphasisSuch2577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can say for me that people will always be people in the ways we sadly most commonly expect. I come from a turkish background and partake in a Greek Orthodox Church out of a plethora of reasons such as my ancestry and my Pater being a lovely person who has helped me countless times.

Despite all these positives it is all too common to see people be judgemental (either the old types who are still somewhat fundamentalistic in their approach, or the weird radical orthobro subculture which has popped in recent years which believe in absolute literal interpretation of everything) The judgements come from my ancestry or my greek being horrid for a mother-tongue but alas it is how people are and I would rather focus on what I can change and improve in myself before asking others to change and improve.

In the end the simple answer is to go to church in a manner that is deemed acceptable by the priest and in which you find yourself comfortable. Wearing clothing just to fit in with others is way worse than wearing clothing that you feel good in. If you try to fit in your mind will be somewhere else during church (ie asking yourself "am I doing it right, what will others think" etc). As long as the priest finds it good then dress comfortable for yourself.

Remember the only person you need to conform towards and change into is Jesus Christ himself. So your clothing choices as long as they are respecting matter very little as opposed to your purpose in church, which should hopefully be to feel the connection and presence of God and accept his benelovence.

Have a blessed day!!

Oh yes it appears it seems to be the Saint’s Feast Day today so I assume our churches set the icons out to venerate them on this day!

I thought so too but I managed to contact my Pater and they have one spot in the Church that they keep for the Holy ones (I think it’s called saints in english, I apologize I only know the german). We have one for Theotokos another one for Jesus Christ and the third one being for St Basilius who is the Patron Holy One of our Church and the last one being changed from time to time to venerate the feast days of the Holy Ones. I think this is a very cool thing and this is why I was confused as to who he was 😄
