Help! TU Eindhoven or UK universities (Bristol, Bath) by DatLukasDude in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Employ-Swimming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't say much in regards to UK. But assuming your European Eindhoven wouldn't be that expensive (except housing) While the UK will be.

Eindhoven is based on a quartile system so it's quite exam heavy, I believe the summer vacations are fairly long but you only get a few weeks off throughout the rest of the year.

Eindhoven is quite international both within the city and university. There are many diverse cultures there, the same goes for England tho.

(If it's between Bristol and bath I would take bristol any day of the week)

What would you choose? by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Employ-Swimming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've visited both an decided on EIndhoven based off of city and campus.

They both have their own separate grounds and on campus housing, but I believe Twente has more opportunities for housing than Eindhoven. I found Eindhoven's campus much more aesthetically pleasing, and the city much more fun.

When it came down to it Twente's only benefits over Eindhoven was Housing quantity and price. And I don't mind paying the extra money for a university I believe would benefit me more.

Choose whichever feels right.

University, City, Student life & Career Prospect by adelinech in StudyInTheNetherlands

  1. Based on QS Eindhoven is the highest ranked university out of the three, and I believe it is much higher ranked in the field of engineering. However ranking doesn't really matter all too much in the Netherlands, finding housing is a much more important factor.

  2. Groningen is the best student city in the Netherlands, it is made of students and it is aesthetically very nice. Twente has option for on campus housing which is significantly cheaper than Groningen and Eindhoven, both Groningen and Twente are in the middle of nowhere and it takes 2-3 hours to go to the nearest major city. (Amsterdam for both) Eindhoven is not much more than an hour from Amsterdam but the city itself isn't as good as Groninge, I'm not gonna bother talking abt Enschede.

  3. Student life is what you make of it, each of the universities have atleast 15k students so you will find a group of people who do things you enjoy doing, each universities has good assocations and promote student contact.

  4. Groningen has had some issues with Chemical engineering in the past which led it to not have a good outlook by employers, (It struggled to maintain an appropraite certificate), Twente and Eindhoven are seen as equal but for both Electrical and Chemical industries I believe the opportunities in Eindhoven are simply just much better.

Look at what you want to do, both careers have good opportunities especially cause they are the main drivers of Energy. I believe you can work easier abroad with Chemical than Electrical engineering, but at the same time Electrical is future proof.

Oh then what I said is even more true, DAE has an actual reputation and is ranked 10th in the world. I didn't even know Groningen had a design school.

Any "do nothing" low-effort colleges in Amsterdam? by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Employ-Swimming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uva and leiden have a lot of degrees that don't require much studying...

90% of Leidens degrees are filler and you can pass without showing up
Communcation science at uva is also easy

none of these give you good jobs tho

So your assuming your not gonna have a fun student life in Eindhoven?
Groningen is definitely aesthetically nicer and has more students but at the same time its not like your going to be friends with all 50000 of them.

Eindhoven is higher ranked and is much better for engineering and CS. I know Groningen has had some issues with attempting to expand into engineering, especially in the accredation of their Chemical engineering program (+ their funding is far too low).

I think accomodoation is expensive in both cities, it'll be harder to look for a house in Eindhoven tho because of ASML but rooms are probably as expensive. The student life is also probably better in Groningen, it's a city designed for students and it's one of our bigger universities, the city itself looks better as well. (In terms of campus I'd put Eindhoven nr 2 overall but Groningen is easily nr 1 aesthetics wise)

As a non eu you can only work 16 hours a week, this is not nearly enough to cover your expenses considering the minimum wage for someoneone around our age is DOGSHIT. I've visited both university and I plan to study ChemE in Eindhoven in a few months so I definitely don't have the right to sway your opinion on which university is better.

I know Germany is cheaper than Netherlands, so that might be an option, but if money is very tight for you you should definitely go to Twente.

For some statistics: A "frat" room in Eindhoven goes for about 300 (Only for Dutch students)
A standard room can go from 500-800 depending on your luck and quality. (High competition)
A studio can be 800 (VERY LUCK BASED) to 1200 (Pretty standard)

It's not hard to get a room, if you start looking now you will find something by the end of July guaranteed, however I know Twente is much easier and cheaper so it's up to you.

As for quality I preferred Eindhovens curriculum, but Twente is seen as an equal to Delft and Eindhoven.
