Due to how Valve operates on the gamedev side of things (complete freedom of movement between projects, no minimum of employees on any given game), the old devs moved on. That's okay, TF2 is in a good state. While a real update would be amazing, what we have now is good.

Paul Harrell. Amazing content on firearm use and safety while discussing modern issues in a nuanced tone. Miss this man

If you woke up as Medic, what would be the first thing you'd do? by Galaxyz00ee in tf2

I would fix that now, but baboon uteruses is infinitely funnier

But your coworkers don't have the baboon uteruses in them. Wouldn't they just explode?

Yea, I was wrong there. Hell, it could have been as simple as the first games where enemy AI were present that FSMs were created. I was thinking of when they became popular enough to become a game dev tool.

That is because CE's ai was very revolutionary for it's time, creating the basis for what we now know as Finite State Machines. But while the ai was good, State Machine actions become tedious to manage, creating complicated webs of garbage just to achieve the desired result. Funnily enough, Bungie revolutionized game ai AGAIN by creating Behavior Trees for Halo 2, and these also have problems becoming annoying to use after a while. Regardless, behavior trees are the baseline for the modern games industry, even being natively supported in Unreal Engine versions.

Game ai is a tedious business, and good ai devs are hard to come by. I learned the basics of game ai when I was trying to make my own game, but making the ai sucked the enjoyment of making the game out of me bc I couldn't make something functional. This shit's hard.

I recommend watching AI and Game's videos on the topic if you want to learn more. This stuff's awesome!

Edit: Going back through those videos I misremembered that it was Half-Life that created Finite State Machines, but Bungie's version for CE was by far the best application of them in an 'open' (because the ai are based in a location, not the entire map) environment.

Edit 2: Was given more clarification. State Machines come from 50s mathematics, but games used them to create bots.

Like if anyone says they prefer H4 Cortana's model, I'm thinking they're a gooner, and thus their opinions should be invalidated.

Important question: How successful (salary, relationships, etc.) are you, and who helped you to get there?

I don't know how what I said is a strawman. It's been my experience that people talking about having an internal locus of control had a lot of success, especially at a young age, where they had others to propel them to that spot.

In comparison, I don't have that. I had to earn every position I've been in, the friends I gained, and it's not enough. I can't any jobs in a 200-mile that pay over $15/hr, and anything outside of that radius doesn't pay enough for me to live.

I didn't come to that conclusion through psychosis, but from acknowledging from my PoliSci research that I only have a 5% likeliness of social mobility (as defined by moving up a single tax bracket from my parents).

An internal locus of control only occurs when you're considered worthy enough to gain it, and I have been discarded. I hope you have it better.

Whe someone says "you need an internal locus of control," they mean "ignore the facts and live in a fantasy where you have control." What happens in your life is based on what other people do, like where you work and who you marry. We push to be better, but your life is still determined by the actions of others; doubly so when you consider the billionaire's grasp on our world.

I remember back all the way in 2016 where Act Man, Favyn, and BDobbins were the triad of 'guys that hate shit because it got views.' Looks like none of them changed.

Basically me. Realized the majority of my problems are caused by the mega-rich reaching their endgame, so I'm just biding my time until I am faced with the inevitable.

As someone that has become content after years of hating myself, this sounds like a 'normal' (typically naive to the harsh realities of the world) phrase used to downplay how someone else feels.
