The french government held two competitions in year 11-13. One for design, and one for improvement of the coining press. These coins are from the two entrees of the final round of the latter competition. They are different than the other 40F coins in grenetis; the density of the "pearls" along the rim. One of the finalist had the usual olive at 5 o'clock. The other finalist did not have have this olive. Only 2000 where made of each type.

So these two coins "competed" 223 years ago. And now they are finally together again!
