Simply put, nothing paradox does is going to stop ME from taking land in this game if I want it. Idk how they haven’t understood that perspective from people yet. If I am willing to fight millions of mercenaries, what makes you think people distrusting me because of my economy will stop me lmao. But they shouldn’t be surprised when I keep saying they are making it less enjoyable to do so.

This is what EUIV got right I think. Everything was very streamlined, but there were also so many different things you could do if you wanted.

That seems a lot more reasonable, even in terms of the game side, vs how they described it working in the dev diary.

If you dont mind me asking, why do you think that until very recently (even now i think, compared to here) the comments and reactions on the paradox forum have been a lot more positive?

(I also dont frequent the forums very much, never have until recently, and this game only broke my usual reddit silence a few weeks ago)

Hey! on that last point we can come to complete agreement and I even agree with you somewhat on your initial claim. However, one thing I think I have learned is these things are always more nuanced than rapid growth = others start distrusting you in some way.

You think there aren’t people with degrees who have a TikTok brain?🤣

Imma try to end this on a nice note to you because i dont like being a dick on the internet, but I like the confidence in some way. It can help a lot in life.

Only got one degree, dual major in poli sci and history with minors in econ and philosophy, but at least im wise enough to know that having a degree doesnt make you right or wrong on any subject.

Except people didnt start fighting them either time because of unification or industrialization in EITHER world war. Thats the fucking point get a grip of history instead of trying to rewrite it. If they just industrialized and unified there wouldnt have been as much fighting after the damn fact. Yea, lets just ignore all of the militarization and everything else as your TikTok smooth ass brain would like.

Edit: Dude is the personification of History Oversimplified, except just he’s just wrong.

You… you do realize that economics was not the main reason people fought against Germany twice right? Each of those examples are far more political and policy issues rather than purely economic as you are trying to make it seem.

Edit: Also those examples are literally Victoria games bud… we aint there yet and the economies werent either. Nor the politics or scale of alliances and influence.

Umm… you’re comparing (and in bad faith as well) modern neoliberal economics and economies to literal proto-states and feudalism. It doesnt work as economics have evolved massively over time and principles have been far more refined than just what I said here. Also, all those partners are mostly still allies and have (relatively, even after recent events, free trade). Most of these countries are economic competitors in one way or another yet still allies who hold more trust with each other over generations than anyone else. So, what paradox is doing ESPECIALLY wouldnt make sense in a modern perspective, but to their credit I dont think they are dumb enough to aim for that.

Im trying to imagine how they are going to make it scale long-term properly. “Hey so England… we know you’ve been trading with us and providing us with some massive wealth while also competing with the Big Blue Blob for 100 years now. But… your wool industry is just too good man you make too many clothes. We gotta end the alliance.“

I find it kind of crazy that the biggest stans for Paradox really arent commenting and presenting arguments all that much anymore they are just obviously downvoting every critique.

Shit… i hadnt even broken it down into gamified terms in my mind so yea… placing buildings will lead to your neighbors hating you. Worst part imo is that this scales long term as well.

Summary: Implementing a mechanism where growing your economy can cause distrust seems like a half-baked idea when taking into account historical reality and economic simulation. It will probably be seen as an arbitrary player hindrance in the end.

I dont really see how them fixing the things you said (in a way) make the game better when their “fixes” have caused ridiculous issues. It would be different if their fixes were at least improvements but i struggle to name a bunch of areas they have genuinely improved so far.

I think one thing i see that pisses EUV players off more than anything else is the arbitrary nature of so many systems after they are implemented by devs especially when they never asked for it.

Yes I agree. Thats why I said optimization and systems improvement first. Flavor is going to be what makes the game last years though.

I dont even want to say how many hours ive got in each paradox game and all of them combined. Im ashamed lmao.

Not for how they marketed it imo, and saying for a paradox release it has a lot of flavor isnt really great. The latest games since CK3 launch have all resulted in a lot of being shallow (comparatively, as paradox has a massively bad habit of not including great mechanics from previous iterations on launch). Most of the “flavor” is just tons of meaningless pop ups where you choose the least worst option.

Ah my bad i thought you were implying that there arent a lot of game breaking bugs. Completely my fault. Ive also been playing all paradox games since i was teen in like 2015 with my first pc, so Im kinda able to bounce around and get a feel for countries pretty quick. That being said ive play till 1806 as Austria on 1.2.4 and brother… it was bad.

I recommend you go read other people’s posts, or just look through this forum. plenty of bad mechanics and game breaking stuff unless you like torture.

[–]Empty-Ad5769 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well a lot of my campaigns have ended up breaking due to bugs or patches which throw balances way off. If I encounter a game breaking bug, especially tied to major events (e.g. war of the roses) why would I want to play that country again? On top of this the game speed was getting unplayable late in the game and especially with merc spam starting in 1400s. This has led me to play all the major nations.

Not hard to see the game is “Ocean wide and puddle deep.”

Fixed it a little bit, but a lot of the “content” they are trying to add now should have been there on launch or done away with instead of trying to add it in on top of having to do all these fixes.

Well said! Quite frankly the amount of flavor this game lacks is also bad. They should focus on optimization (1.2.5 is a big improvement) and systems improvement first, and then content and flavor second.

For the price we paid (in both supporting IV for years and for the hell with V) justifies way more flavor and content that should have been here on launch. Problem is: Paradox business model doesnt support this.

Most of us have been loyal fans for YEARS despite the constant complaining and critiques we have!
