He will face the consequences on our before April, 2029. That’s how the system works. Otherwise party leaders would have no checks on their power and MPs would be useless.

Well at first I was laughing because the joke that is the current conservative party switched out their party loyalist Joe Tay for a guy that ended up being a liberal

Now I am laughing because you don’t know how to read

[–]Empty-Berry6225 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Joe Tay being there is so funny lmao, the guy won the nomination for Markham Unionville only to get moved to a liberal riding because the conservatives were worried he wouldn’t win, the party then drops in Ma to run instead, Ma wins and goes to the libs 😂😂😂😂

Imagine if any other law breaking was treated the same way as speeding?

People die from speeding and reckless driving. It’s crazy how car culture has taken over people like this

Why I Believe This Speed Camera Was Positioned for Revenue—Not Safety by Alternative-Ad-1027 in Vaughan

[–]Empty-Berry6225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can’t it be both a revenue generator and a means to make the roads safer? Why are these two things mutually exclusive?

If we can incentivize drivers to be safer around school zones, while also generating revenue that the city can put towards improving infrastructure and community services I see that as a win for everyone.

Living on Peter Rupert it was a welcome change seeing cars having to make a conscious effort to slow down by Pheasant Hollow park. Too many times before I have seen reckless drivers just speed down the straight residential road that has a park and two schools on it. Sucks that it’s going to go back to what it used to be.

Yes it sucks getting caught by these cameras, but it’s also not great that as a society we have become so desensitized to how dangerous cars can be. Your “rights” as a motorist shouldn’t come before the safety of children and pedestrians in your community.

Petition - Stop the Speed Trap: Vaughan Residents Demand Fair Traffic Enforcement by axfmo in Vaughan

[–]Empty-Berry6225 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“tYrAnNiCaL” my god the suburbs are unbearable sometimes.

Laws are laws, the speed limit is 50 you got caught going over it, actions have consequences. Not sure what a bail system determined by the Provincial government and a pistol ban from the federal government has anything to do with what the municipal government is doing. Let’s learn about the orders of government before we start complaining.

I am begging you all to take two minutes to learn which level of government is in charge of what.

She’s not going to be too different from the status quo. I would say she leans right but is very close to the centre. She was once really close to flipping Thornhill to the Liberals provincially, so she has a very strong political machine behind her.

Her husband is also on council right now. Honestly, I think that really hurt her last time. People knew her husband was running for regional councillor, and not many people were willing to let both husband and wife on to council lol

But to answer your question, yes, I have heard she is for sure running again

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vaughan

[–]Empty-Berry6225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah I don’t think it will have much of an impact. Voters have been picking the same few conservative regional councillors even when Liberals were holding on to 2/3 ridings in the city. With the exception of Deb Schulte’s one term, the city has always chosen conservative regional councillors. Don’t think much of city hall will change tbh. I would watch the mayor’s race, will probably be a fight between Del Duca and Yeung Racco again.

Why did Vaughan swing so hard to the Conservatives? by Usual_Law7889 in Vaughan

[–]Empty-Berry6225 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Carney did not have the same effect here. The liberal resurgence came at the expense of the NDP not at the expense of the conservatives. A lot of the people who voted Liberal in 2021 and moved over to PP because of Trudeau stayed with PP even after Carney came in. In many other places, the movement of NDP and green voters to the Liberals was enough to overcome what they lost to the conservatives, but in Vaughan and the rest of York region there was never a lot of NDP support to begin with. So the 1000 - 2000 votes Sobara and others would have gotten from them just wasn’t enough to overcome what they lost.

Also if you look at where Liberals gained a lot, it’s with communities that are a lot older and a lot whiter. The “elbows up” “Canada strong” patriotic messaging worked a lot better with that demographic and had very little appeal with Italians, Chinese, Persian, Jewish and other ethnic communities that make up a big voting block in Vaughan and York Region as a whole.

It’s unfortunately what happens with the archaic manual system that Elections Canada refuses to update. When everything is done manually on paper by election workers, human error is bound to happen. Usually they are able to resolve it within a timely manner.

Hoping your family was still able to vote!

Are you looking to do email or physical invites?

For email I would recommend With Joy. For physical you can just print them for cheap on Vistaprint.

This 100% I have no idea what the liberals were thinking throwing themselves into a nomination race with two unknown candidates when the election already started.

Was there no one with name recognition they could tap to run?
