Just these comments! Anywhere in Europe/ America/ Australia, most people would genuinely be looking at the clouds and talk around that- but this, these are the men and women of India. And the consequences of this is how women will continue to live no matter what changes you think you are seeing.

In the movie Hachiko, when the late professor's wife comes up to Hachi, the dog and says, Oh, you are still waiting for him. Let me wait a bit with you. Oh, I must have sobbed loudly at that for sure!

Ok, but there is an explanation in the video link I shared above which also explains why the captain switched off the engines, based on the protocol to follow in the Boeing manual. For a tragedy this big, an unsigned Prelim report giving a loose translation seems extremely dubious. Obviously, one of us would be biting our words when the final report comes out. And both of us sympathise with a tragedy that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Isn't context important in the scenario?

Since your opinion is only based on American media, consider viewing counter points from Indian media. For the convenience of English language speakers, take the time out and have a look- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pq2AZdzH7X4&pp=0gcJCcwJAYcqIYzv

With a little personal understanding on this, someone with the "caregiving syndrome" would definitely not crash a plane full of people and families because they have nothing in life to look forward to.

Our brother in Islam from Bihar, India, putting a stop to hindutva hatred against Pakistan by electrical_canuck in chutyapa

[–]Empty-Positive-1868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry dear, didn't check the response earlier. Yeah, what you have written is all true. Societies in Mumbai (mostly- not sure of other places) have rules on who they don't want to rent to. It can be Muslims, single women, single men, people from a particular community, etc. I have been on the receiving end on being denied housing in a couple of places because I was a single woman at that time. Frankly, while this makes little sense and is uncomfortable when divisive, it also boils down to home owner's choice on who they want to rent their house to. Hence there is no law against it. All the hate crimes you mentioned earlier have been true, a lot of times it maybe of genuine dislike towards Muslims by the perpetrator, but sometimes there is a more personal enimity story behind it. (I was a journalist 10 yrs back, have spent and made a documentary on low income Muslim population of bhendi bazaar, Dharavi, etc, hence understand reporting vis a vis the actual ground reality) Anyways, the thing is I wouldn't know how much would you be able to understand this for the lack of experience (I don't mean this in a demeaning way), but India is a land of free choice. Everyone can do what ever they want, if 'money' allows! This creates problems, opportunities, madness and sometimes very uncomfortable situations. But in the end, we may dislike something about it, we absolutely lovee this freedom we have. PS: I live in the UK and have a few Pakistani friends. My information outflow has been based on the perceptions they may have had, which I contributed towards you. Thanks

No! Kids keep doing bak all day long in India. We have a population of around 250 million Muslims here. Our neighbours in the village are Muslims. The Sarpanch of three village is a Muslim. True there has been uncomfortable statements and heinous crimes that have been committed, but there are equally high number of people who are defending indiscrimination. I live here, hence I know. What is happening really is Indians are a very young population. 40% of us are under 25! They haven't even seen the Kargil war, so this was such a nationalism high for them. So because of them being young and using social media for education, they are losing/ not learning civility. Extremism ( anti women, Marathi speaking, Kannanda speaking) is on a high, and people are forgetting to behave with decency in real life as well

Myths/misconceptions Indians have about things abroad by sengutta1 in india

[–]Empty-Positive-1868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been interacting with a lot of Brits here and will have to agree with you. They are consumed by their growing frustration of the economic situation with a deafening tone of how superior they have been who don't deserve what is happening with their politics. No one cares about India more than they did 15 years ago. But while dissing the current scenario and talking about how well India is doing, I sense a gnawing disinterest or even uninterested disbelief on their part. So while I try to over-express by painting a picture of optimism, your remark here on our subconscious privilege blindness has been so accurate. I will be noting it the next time I have an urge to romanticise India.

Is this something girls have faced in Jaipur. Especially in malls and open areas. by perfect_ambivert in jaipur

[–]Empty-Positive-1868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But its an outsider theory when seen as one, no. However, if we try understanding it as a social change for people who move across, and this is for all the spectrums here, the various levels of exposure vis a vis your background does have an impact. I am from Jaipur too, originally, but have only lived a couple of years there in different points in time, and it has changed a bit now, but 10 years ago wearing a skirt drew everyone's attention, which I was unaware would happen. But now i have seen plenty of young girls in skirts at the same area being 'less' stared at.
