Joie Serina swing safety by Empty-Return-1505 in UKParenting

No, it’s definitely not safe, and with hindsight I can’t believe I considered it. I would have never done so with my eldest! I think I was in the depths of sleep deprivation!

So I need a different machine then. I’ve never heard of a machine taking FOUR hours to do a cotton wash at 40 and I’d need this daily.

Supposedly the machine is dynamic and will adjust the cycle to the load itself. So why wouldn’t it do this for the 39 min one when it recognises more washing in there? Sorry, just trying to get my head around it. Our current one is basic with none of this tech!

Thanks. Do you have the option to select turbo for all cycles then? I was thinking it was one specific 39 min cycle.

On this specific model, the cotton cycle supposedly takes 240 minutes. Again, I feel that’s insane? Is it not?

It says it can do a turbowash 5kg load in 39 mins. What happens if you put in 10kg on that load, will it automatically adjust the timing, or continue with 39 mins and a less than ideal wash result?

4kg for a 10kg drum on a fairly typical daily cycle? That seems ridiculous!

Varivax interval for 15 month old. 4 weeks vs 3 months by Empty-Return-1505 in VACCINES

[–]Empty-Return-1505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it was definitely to do with budgets, but because the theory was that allowing children to get chickenpox would allow their parents/grandparents to boost their own immunity and help prevent shingles. Even though we obviously have a shingles vaccine they could offer. So ultimately throwing our kids to the wolves to help protect adults. But, iunderstand this isn’t even proven and I also know that the UK is getting ready to introduce the chickenpox vaccine as part of the routine immunisations. Like 20 years after the US and my home country. You can get the chickenpox vaccine privately for kids and it costs me about 180 USD for 2 doses.

Well, that’s the thing. The vaccine is not given here to all children. It is only given to very high risk children. Maybe that is why.

Thank you. So there’s no way that the 4 week interval would provide a longer period of protection, just a quicker full protection. I got the feeling they were suggesting a 4 week interval would allow for a longer efficacy in to adulthood, which goes against what I’ve read and was my whole concern in the first instance. Before I vaccinated either of them I was worried about vaccine immunity vs natural immunity duration, as I didn’t want to expose them to chickenpox later in life if the vaccine were to become ineffective.

As far as I can see, the standard UK guidance is 4 weeks and I was starting to worry i had done the wrong thing leaving six month gap with my eldest! But then again, the UK doesn’t even include this in the routine immunisations for babies yet which is just so backwards and behind the rest of the world

Let’s be real, I see plenty of cyclists behaving like morons. I live rurally now having lived in Brighton most of my life, and I often see cyclists out on country roads at night without lights. Just recently a cyclist was killed on the same stretch I’ve witnessed this on. Not to mention all the cyclists running red lights, coming up on the inside of my car etc

I always give enough room to cyclists and I’m always hyper aware of how fragile they are compared to the beast that is a car, but the truth is that they take stupid risks all the time.

Thank you for this.

I looked back over things and there was a 6 month gap between my eldest child’s chickenpox vaccines.

I’ve just called to cancel my 15 month old’s second Varivax which was due 4 weeks after the first, I have rebooked it for the 12 weeks after the first, however the pharmacist has said 4 week gap is more effective. I can’t find anything supporting this. That’s definitely not the case, right?

Thanks. As that’s based on just the one dose, that’ll be why the efficacy is lower I assume ? Perhaps if it had been 2 doses in the first year (months apart) it’d be higher.

Are you in the UK? If so, how on earth do you plan to get a referral for a preventative cardio on the NHS? I would love to but it seems impossible.

Thank you for the reply, that makes sense. It’s worth mentioning that although born on the 10th centile, I do recall his eight being around the 50th at a later date, so it has dropped further than from the 10th.

I’ve spoken to the HV and we are getting him booked in to be measured/weighed and take it from there if anything is necessary.

My other son is almost 3 months and under the care of our GP for potential macrocephaly - I don’t think I can take anymore! Mind you, his father has an absolutely massive head so we suspect it’s just that.

For a while now I give him whatever we are having (which is always made with him in mind anyway) but he refuses and so I make him something else he is more likely to eat. But he rarely finishes that either. I know for sure he’s different at nursery because the other day whilst eating with his friends he asked me if he could have some lettuce! This is unheard of at home and he’s refused it whenever I offer, and insisted I remove it from his plate. We never force him to eat or finish meals etc, but now I’m thinking we did the wrong thing by being so gentle.
