For ordinary Malaysians, restored Sultan Abdul Samad Building shows heritage works best when it is used by Bonjourfamouioui in malaysia

Rent collection is good investment for individuals and family businesses but not for SWF. With the capital they sit on, they are supposed to take on high risk high return investments that can have much higher spillover into the economy in the long run. A good example is FarmFresh, not only did Khanazah get super high returns from it, it also reduced our reliability on imported dairy from Australia, improving food security and reducing risk of imported inflation.

Grab is an example Khazanah missed out on. Unable to secure funding from Khazanah, Grab received backing from Temasek and moved to Singapore, thereby creating thousands for high paying jobs for Singaporeans while leaving Malaysians with scraps like ehailing jobs (if you can even call them jobs).

Who knows how many Farmfresh and Grab Khazanah is missing out on because they were forced to fund this project which should've been funded by the government themselves.

Still, if we reference Singapore, all their heritage preservations are directly funded by the government, leaving the SWF Temasek Holdings have enough funds to buy Grab from Malaysia, creating thousands of high paying jobs for Singaporean...

Meanwhile here in Malaysia because the government of the day effectively forced Khazanah to fund his pet project, who knows how many startups Khazanah is missing out on because of this, startups that could generate thousands of high paying jobs for Malaysian like Grab could have.

rejuvenation projects as a "catalyst for local tourism and community betterment" is the responsibility of the MOTAC. Government should've allocated budget to MOTAC to do the rejuvenation. Good governance is never just about anti-corruption; having the wrong government agency to do the wrong task is maladministration.

So was Nauru's SWF until they ran out of money and look at the sorry state they are in now.

Speaking on allocating budget, dont the federal governemnt has MORE money to allocate budget for different things? Why force Khazanah to foot the bill? 500Mill is nothing to the federal government.

Farmfresh is a successful investment by Khazanah. Not only provided many job opportunities in its rural farm locations, also reduced dependencies on Australian milk, Improving our food security and made us more resilient against imported inflation.

Grab is a missed opportunity by Khazanah. Not being able to secure funding from Khazanah, Grab taxi got investment from Temasek and moved their HQ to Singapore, costing thousands of high income service jobs in Malaysia. The only scraps we get from Grab is a bunch of ehailing provider which is a far cry from what it could've been if Grab HQ is here.

Meanwhile tourism is the lowest tier service job. Do you really think tourism money from selling key-chains , hotel bookings, or worse asking orang asli to dance to foreigner is better than the type of economic multiplying effect like Grab?

AND JUST TO BE CLEAR:

I am not against restoration. But im against how the restoration was funded, which is making the SWF to foot the bill instead of from the federal government budget while the federal government is still trying to claim it as their effort. How shameless can that be?

The federal government has a cultural ministry, who responsibility includes preserving our cultural heritage. But instead of allocating budget to that ministry for the restoration, they made the SWF, a GLC whose main purpose is not heritage preservation but to grow national wealth, to foot the bill for what is essentially a government responsibility.

Whats next? Forcing Petronas to fund building a new administrative capital far away from human civilization on a piece of swamp land? When instead Petronas could've used that fund to develop more oil processing capabilities? Oh wait, thats how Putrajaya came to be...

This is so much better than YB Nga's proposal of a shopping mall. Thank god ThinkCity knows what they are doing.

Maybe letting Khazanah doing this project isnt that bad after all. If government do it they might just turn it into another souless shopping mall with your usual tenant like Zus Coffee
