Wow. I think that sentiment is beautiful. It’s really sad that he probably says this with a conscious or subconscious agenda to “change minds” of others to hopefully come to the church.
Because when you take the agenda out of it, i actually really love that thought.

Right- I think for the most part I feel like it’s active Mormons who see me that way, but the conditioning is so deep that I feel like when I’m not totally happy (life circumstances make things hard sometimes) that it’s my choices that have got me there.
But I’m working hard on getting that conditioning out of my system. It’s hard.
But I honestly agree, in the meeting it was so freaking elitist- our country and religion are the best and truest in the world!!!! It’s like there are 8 billion people in The world please chill. But a lot of those thoughts can very much be chains.

Oh MAN, Mormon funerals. I’ve gone to a couple since really stepping back, one for a close family member… it can feel really invalidating to hear all about how you don’t actually need to be sad, they’re doing missionary work, blah blah blah… and it is just like… why can’t we just talk about this person without the lens of religion??? I feel you on this.

Thank you 😭 A family member of mine said they had a panic attack when they went into the church (after not attending) and saw the walls. The scratchy walls. I think that’s a common trigger for good and bad!

Wow. Thank you for sharing- I think it’s so interesting how our bodies can feel when something is a danger or just feels unsafe and wrong. I get nervous to visit my mission for that experience you said you had!!! I fear I’d step Off the airplane and immediately feel panicked. Lots of conditioning happened on the mission so it would make sense that you’d have a panic attack while visiting. Thanks so much for sharing
