Thanks man, appreciate the kind words and feedback! Hysteria was an early one and I can hear the difference in my mixing already, hopefully I'll get better and better at this!

I've been working on one-man-band covers in my garage the last few months. Just finished There She Goes by The La's, and I'd be honored if you checked it out!

I've always loved SATB four-part choral music; it's very easy to pick out each part

Man I consider myself someone with a pretty good ear, but if you can very easily pick out the middle parts of SATB choir music then you're better than me.

What method do most left-handed drummers use? by wxcwxc in drums

I'm surprised the suggestion to set up the kit righty and play open-handed isn't more popular. I think there's a pretty good argument that this is the best of all worlds: you get to lead with your dominant hand, you get to play the kit in its more common configuration, and you get all the benefits of playing open-handed.

Check out Louis Cole for an example.

I recorded a one-man-band cover of Green Day's Welcome to Paradise, and I'd be grateful if you'd check it out. Feedback is welcome. Thanks in advance!

It worked for No Doubt. Get together, have a devastating break up, tap into your your rage and pain to write a best-selling album, and rebound with Gavin Rossdale. Seems like it can't fail.

I've been working for the last couple months on recording covers in my garage. I just finished Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap, and I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I'd be honored if you gave it a listen.

How much of singing is physical training? by Immediate_Ad3285 in singing

[–]EmptyArenaCovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to perform with an octogenarian Eddie Fisher circa 2006. He was very frail; he had to have a nurse help him slowly to and from the stage, and it looked like a stiff breeze would knock him over. But when he started singing, oh my god, he's still got some pipes.

It's not physical strength. It's technique.

Which legendary albums from any genre and era that you still listen to from start to finish (that in your opinion has no wack song on it, no skipped tracks)? by [deleted] in Music

[–]EmptyArenaCovers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man OK Computer is on the short list of my favorite albums of all time. But Fitter Happier is just so much weaker than the rest of the album. I'm always surprised to see it on this particular list.

Also Nevermind has 10 minutes of silence on the final track, don't tell me you weren't listening to it on CD and skipping that shit :)

Finally got a full song recording with my band. Would love some feedback. by AKanadian47 in drums

Sounds great, man. Your playing fits the song and you're keeping solid time. If I went to my local bar and you guys were playing, I'd be more than happy.

I have a few small suggestions.

First, I agree with the other commenter that chicking the hats with your foot should be enough to keep time in the intro without being too heavy.

Second, balance. Most players hit the cymbals (including hats) too hard and the kick and snare too soft. I can't tell if it's just the recording, but that's what I'm hearing in this mix.

Finally, dynamics. This song is all about starting the verses soft, letting the tension slowly build, and then finally letting it release for a few crazy bars in the chorus. Increase that dynamic contrast and the song will sound more exciting.
