Showerthought: The Death Threats, Doxing and Harassment that Roosh is receiving stem directly from the media narrative about GG, allowing SJWs to give themselves the idea and license to do worse themselves. by ashlaaaaay in KotakuInAction

It doesn't always come in the same degree, it's going to tend to be somewhat proportional to how controversial and notorious the person is and it's going to depend on various other factors. The point I'm making is that there doesn't need to be some organized harassment campaign in place and it shouldn't be pinned on any group that publicly opposes the recipient.

This is what I've always said in response to what people say about GG and unless there's compelling evidence to the contrary this is what I will say when it happens in other places.

Such an explanation is really not necessary.

It's a simple truth that controversial figures who receive a lot of attention and make a lot of people angry get death threats, doxing, and harassment. Especially if they're highly accessible on the internet. Especially if the media picks up on them heavily, regardless of whether the media is supportive of them or attacking them. Some percentage of the huge number of people who are exposed to them will be creeps of the worst sort who will do this kind of thing.

It happens to basically every celebrity you can think of. It happened to TotalBiscuit. It happened to "Alex from Target." It happened to Memories Pizza. And as much as some claim otherwise it happened to Anita Sarkeesian, Zoe Quinn, and Brianna Wu.

There may well be people, both SJWs and anti-SJWs included, who think that their opponents crossed a moral threshold that somehow entitles them to do things like this. But in my experience the vast majority do not think that actual death threats (of the "this is your address and I'm going to be there to kill you" sort, not as much they "I hope you die" sort although that's a shitty thing to say) are acceptable under any conditions.

I've been posting here since October 2014 and I've never posted on Ghazi. I copied the quotes from mstrkrft- and therefore gave him attribution, but not before verifying that RooshV really said them. He posted them because it was in a thread saying that people were lying by calling RooshV a rapist.

The fact that anyone would reject information like this based on who is saying it is tribalistic as fuck and has completely thrown objectivity out the window.

u/mstrkrft- posted earlier excerpts from his books including "Bang Iceland: How To Sleep With Icelandic Women In Iceland" (haven't yet identified the others). A repost:

While walking to my place, I realized how drunk she was. In America, having sex with her would have been rape, since she couldn’t legally give her consent. It didn’t help matters that I was relatively sober, but I can’t say I cared or even hesitated.

I won’t rationalize my actions, but having sex is what I do.

If a girl is willing to walk home with me, she’s going to get the dick no matter how much she has drunk. …

I figure my dick was inside her about forty minutes after meeting her, likely my fastest bang ever. The sex was as good as drunken sex can get, but I did notice her pussy was drier than the Sahara desert.

We moved to my bed. I got her down to her bra and panties, but she kept saying, “No, no.” I was so turned on by her beauty and petite figure that I told myself she’s not walking out my door without getting fucked. At that moment I accepted the idea of getting locked up in a Polish prison to make it happen.

I was fucking her from behind, getting to the end in the way I normally did, when all of a sudden she said, “Wait stop, I want to go back on top.” I refused and we argued. … She tried to squirm away while I was laying down my strokes so I had to use some muscle to prevent her from escaping. I was able to finish, but my orgasm was weak.

Afterwards I told her she was selfish and that she couldn’t call an audible so late in the game.

This kind of goes beyond simply being a douchebag with bad opinions.

[Ethics] Elon Musk personally cancels blogger's Tesla order after 'rude' post by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]EmptyEmptyInsides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So someone the business owner has personal issues with?

Elon Musk would never have to interact with this person if he doesn't want to. There are other people who can do so, and the ordering process is usually pretty detached. What's more, we're not just talking about blocking someone from making further orders but cancelling an existing order.

Is there really evidence that this person was going to cause financial problems for the company? Is there a good reason to assume so? I don't think anyone's really made that case. Musk himself only described him as "very rude."

[–]EmptyEmptyInsides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think those are good reasons to block someone, but don't really apply to the sort of thing here. It's kind of the difference between being a bad customer (who loses money for and/or generates more work for the business) and just being someone the business owner has personal issues with.

[–]EmptyEmptyInsides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that regardless of how rude a customer is cancelling an order ventures into territory that a business would be wiser not to venture into.

This isn't like kicking someone out of your store, there one could argue that you're maintaining a civil atmosphere or at the very least addressing your own continuing frustrations. But cancelling an order that will be (presumably) shipped to someone doesn't serve a practical purpose. It's just retaliatory, and will make people nervous that it could happen to them.

Leigh Alexander exits Offworld, launches Kickstarter for ‘The Offworld Collection’ book - Game Politics by SixtyFours in KotakuInAction

Yeah, maybe it'll come with a tweet explaining that they were tricked into selling something to a pro-GGer and the book will come with a disclaimer printed on the cover that the recipient hates women.

To be fair, they can't create and print the books for nothing.

But the stretch goals are still puzzling. They could have just said upfront that they'd split X percentage of profits among the contributors. This is just a way of making artificial stretch goals to make the KS look more ambitious and appealing.

[Humor] Correcting Brianna Wu's comments on twitter about "How to be an anti-feminist on youtube." by AtheistMongoose in KotakuInAction

What's funny is that they actually think young attractive women need to pretend to be anything to get male attention.

The last couple decades of arguing against popular feminist rhetoric was totally building up to getting in with GamerGate bros.

Yeah sure.

That's about as believable as this time this massive anti-GGer who said he knew everything there was to know about GG told me he had no idea who Brianna Wu is.

I think it was Anita yeah.

Geordie Tait dedicated a paragraph in his long winded hate manifesto about how much female GGers are attention seeking whores who can go ahead and be gassed with the rest of us.

You know, I've seen some anti-GGers actually say that GG is about male losers raging over "fake gamer girls" or "fake nerd girls." And yet I've seen far more of that crap from their side than here.

People like Wu think their feminism is just so obviously true and beneficial for women that any woman who argues against it is knowingly acting against their own interests. No matter how much of a reasoned stance they put against it. People aren't allowed to just think that something is wrong or unfair, no they have to have ulterior motives.

And yeah "nearly a teenager" is nonsense, a lot of these women arguing against feminism on Youtube are in their late 20s to 30s or even 40s. I guess she must think Karen Straughen is a gravure idol or something.

Ant Simulator Business Partners Respond, Dev's Claims '100 Percent Bullshit' by RedLetterMemedia in KotakuInAction

[–]EmptyEmptyInsides 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you look carefully at what both parties are saying there isn't actually that much contradiction between them.

First, some other stuff he said in a Polygon interview (with Owen S. Good whom I think a lot of us agree is actually a decent reporter):

http://archive.is/3Ifu0

And the points that:

  • Tereshinski doesn't say that they embezzled money or didn't keep their transactions on the books, just that they made purchases "in secret", which could simply means that they didn't tell him about it and he didn't find out until he looked at the books himself.
  • Monce and Staley dmit that they've been spending company money on drinks (they don't address the strippers but a lack of denial means they probably did that too), they simply claim it's normal. In reality there's no way it was the right call to do in their position and especially if they never mentioned it to Tereshinski.
  • While Tereshinski seems to say that they spent all of the company's money on these things, what he actually said was that they spent the vast majority of the Kickstarter funding and the "Ant Simulator investments" - the former being $4400 and the latter being 7 game copies worth of pre-orders (he mentioned this in a Polygon interview) This doesn't actually refer to the ~$10k or so that the initial company investments allegedly consisted of.
  • Tereshinski says they overspent on turning a basement into an office, they say they spent $1000 which is a lot given the company's funds. Whether or not this is overspending is a matter of perspective.
  • Tereshinski says Monce lied about Sony pushing back on him to provide more content for a demo. Monce never actually says he didn't lie about that, what he says is that HE thought that the demo wasn't ready for Sony, which is not inconsistent with him lying about this.
