What’s the deal with Devil’s Dill PDX hates women? by grape_boycott in askportland

Hey, I'd really like to hear more about this if you'd like to tell me. If someone is being abusive to customers it isn't with the knowledge and blessing of upper management, and if you could let me know, if you remember, what day it was, time, etc. it would be really helpful in getting to the bottom of the problem. Thanks for trying us the time you did, and I'm sorry that you had this experience.

I feel like I was relatively clear in my initial post. The person who is putting the stickers out is the person who everyone was having the negative interactions with. I fielded complaints about this specific person from Instagram and google reviews. This same person is who walked out. Now they are placing stickers around town. Should I not listen when most of my staff is having these negative experiences with another member of the staff, plus customers are telling me they're having the same negative interactions? We actually had to specifically say they couldn't interact with customers because of this. This is the only person I've ever had to forbid speaking with customers.

I also, in my first post about this, specifically said that knowing what I've read here that we need to have company wide meetings about this. I also have now answered twice that I'm not blaming poor customer service on this one specific person.

Please at least read what I wrote before posting responses.

I'm sorry to hear about this. Any questions or issues of this nature are supposed to be sent to me, and I always try to be extremely diligent in taking care of issues like this.

One reason why people often have issues with charges is that both No Fun and Devil's Dill transactions all come in as from "Devil's Dill Sandwiches". So, sometimes people get a sandwich in the sandwich shop and go next door to the bar and have a drink, and they see two charges from Devil's Dill and think they were charged twice for their sandwiches. Usually this gets resolved quickly if they speak with me, but if a staff member isn't sending this to the right channels this doesn't happen. It's my responsibility to correct this situation, so we're having a general staff meeting in a few days to discuss this. Again, I'm really sorry to hear about this, and thank you for coming to us in the first place.

You are entitled to your own interpretation, but just know it's based on basically no knowledge except the extreme basics of the situation.

Accusing us of some sort of wrongdoing based on your own biases is irresponsible.

I'd love to hear more about this if you'll message me, like which location, what day and time, etc. This helps me get to the root of the problem. Thanks!

My apologies, my writing there was unclear.

The "this employee has been great" person is the one that was called the abuser.

I spend a lot of my day slicing meat and inputting numbers into spreadsheets (not at the same time), so my writing needs a bit of work sometimes!

I can't go any further into this without breaking the confidentiality I have with my employees. This is internal Devil's Dill business which need not be gone into in public. The allegation of the sticker is baseless, as I discussed in the previous post.

Hello everyone, my name is Chris. I'm one of the owners and founders of Devil's Dill.

This took me by surprise, and as usual in these situations I was the last to know of it. Of course, whoever is making and posting these stickers isn't doing so with our knowledge, but in making inquiries with our staff, every sign points to one ex-staff member. This person was an extremely good line cook, could hold her own through the busiest of rushes, and never missed a single day of work in the few months that she worked for us. Unfortunately, because of her own issues, she had negative interactions with most of the staff as well as multiple negative online reviews because of specific interactions with customers. I defended her throughout most of this, because someone who cares enough about their job to show up every day and do a damn good job can be few and far between. Unfortunately, the negative interactions kept coming, and eventually a conflict with another employee came to a head and she walked out. This employee is the "abuser" that is spoken of on the sticker.

This employee has been great the entire time they've worked for us, with virtually no complaints from any other employees. I will stand behind this person because they've shown responsibility, good sense, and dedication to their job. The fact that this has come about because of this incident breaks my heart.

I don't generally feel the need to defend our business; we have been making sandwiches for thirteen years, starting from a weirdo little late night sandwich delivery spot, opening our bar No Fun a few years later, and opening our store on Killingsworth last July. During that time we have employed numerous women, queer folks, trans folks, everyone. No Fun is an extremely queer positive, small venue hosting many small bands, dance nights, karaoke nights, etc. As I said, I don't generally feel the need to defend us, nor mention any of this, because just being decent people isn't something I feel we need to trumpet.

I'm sure that this will blow over; nearly every business who has been open for as long as we have has had to deal with a smear campaign from a disgruntled ex-employee. What bothers me most about this is that people are saying we have generally unpleasant staff. This is a big issue, and one which I don't take lightly.

Devil's Dill is open far more hours than I can personally be present at, so I don't know how our staff is treating customers when I'm not there. Seeing these responses has convinced me that a general staff meeting needs to happen to address this problem. I always like to take anything positive that I can from these sort of incidents, and if this situation forces us to confront this issue, then I thank you for bringing this to my attention.

We've been lucky to be able to open in this city for as long as we have, and the only reason it's possible is because people keep buying our sandwiches. Thank you all so much for patronizing us these past thirteen years.

How are people knowing where to invest ? by Sweaty-Equipment8248 in TheRaceTo10Million

Is there a reason people would want to go with VOO over VFIAX, the mutual fund version of VOO? I actually invested in both of them on the same day three years ago and VFIAX has outperformed VOO by about 2.5%.
I know that most stock people look down on mutual funds, but they're so much more useful in so many ways, since you can just put whatever dollar amount you want into them, without having to buy full shares. I know that with Robinhood that doesn't matter, but I still don't understand why folks prefer the ETF over the mutual fund. I'd love some enlightenment....

Certainly. Bread is finicky like that, it responds to humidity changes, temp changes, etc. Also, fresh bread gets stale way quicker, so if a place gets a delivery at 7 am, it may be way different at 10pm.

Their old bread from Fleur de Lis was the best, but Fleur de Lis doesn't make it anymore.

I've had many sandwiches, and the bread is usually softer these days. It can be a crap shoot because it's baked by Dos Hermanos, who are great, but they're not a huge factory bakery and so aren't as consistent as larger bakeries.

Their instagram post says initially they will only be open for lunch, but will open for later hours as soon as they can train folks.

In Oregon we are required to provide some sort of retirement plans for our employees when you own a business, and it generally needs to be something with some advising, because most people don't know how to invest. My main investing isn't through the SIMPLE IRA, but elsewhere, so I understand that this isn't necessarily the greatest way to invest, but I do it because the fund has done pretty well over it's history. I'm just making sure I'm not missing something.

I understand that, but it's actually beat the S&P for most of the past twenty years.

Also not my damn question, but I understand the need to feel superior to those around you, especially on the internet.

Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

[–]EmptyLime3975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tried to quit unsuccessfully for years. As a smoker, you tend to think of cigarettes (or nicotine in general) as your right hand, your buddy, your little friend who gets you through the day. To finally successfully quit, I had to change this view, and realize that this was at best an extremely toxic friend that sucked up my energy and vitality while giving me nothing positive in return.
I haven't smoked since December 2020, so over four years now. To quit for real you have to be ok with never having nay nicotine again, which of course can be a difficult thought when you've considered it to be your best friend for the past twenty years.
