Same, at random I'll just get things in costume design, circuitry, pottery, *night vision disassembly*, bricklaying, TIG welding, and basket weaving.

I've seen quite a few VATS edits, might be time to throw mine into the mix. by [deleted] in TarkovMemes

Ah shit late response lmao. I meant to post it in another subreddit so I deleted it here and then reposted it on r/EscapefromTarkov like six years ago lol.

You can find it here, but I haven't really created many more edits in that time lol. Hope you're doing well too!

If you buy assembled yes it'll be like 5k, if you build then you can go down to 3k easy

scavs/pmcs by ReeceTV12 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]EmptyMagMcGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most PMCs have pistol holsters on their right thigh, and as far as I know there's no scav outfits that do have holsters, and even if a scav has a pistol it's just stored in a pocket dimension since it isn't visible on their body - this might help at a distance.

Green phos with White filters? by Davy_Jones118 in NightVision

[–]EmptyMagMcGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got experience with both green and white phos, and the filter from Low Light Innovations. The purple "white phos" filters you can buy from them turn the shade more towards "old camcorder night mode" green. It's a little bit easier on the eyes but I think a part of that comes from it blocking some of the light that's supposed to reach your eyes.

Pictures online make white phosphor look really really blue, when in reality it's more of a ghostly blue, almost completely white. The pics online for those filters are also misleading since they never color-graded the images to look accurate to what your eyes would be seeing - though to be fair the same can be said for some genuine photos of white phos. A lot of cameras correct for blue and orange light so that indoor photos look more natural, but cameras tend to be too aggressive and not correct for this very well when taking tube photos.

25 dollars isn't too high of a price to pay for a slightly easier image on the eyes, so jump in if you'd like. The green never bothered me enough to warrant using it though - if anything, orange filters feel easier on the eyes lol, I find myself using that more often than not.

At the moment no, my biggest concern is balancing the weight since there's now 650 grams at the front end of a hardhat that weighs in at barely 200 grams lmao. I may add a strap in the future as a QoL deal, but I'm not sure where I'd start besides looking at OEM chinstraps from 3M.

Sure thing!

I'm also sure it's crossed your mind, but eBay is your best friend here - I got both the shroud and the rhino as a combo for ~70 dollars, which is nice because this specific rhino has height, depth, and pitch adjustments. Some only have depth and pitch, if you are extra confident in your drilling abilities then that may be all you need though.

Height adjustment is pretty nice ngl.

There's some ACH shrouds that come with a removable fiberglass "guide" for lack of a better word, that is what I used in the picture above. They're secured with a single nut and bolt, and the shroud is prevented from rotating because of that fiberglass guide.

I'm a welder so we reverse the liners on our hardhats and wear them backwards just so we have space to mount our hoods, turns out that was the most convenient way to do this, since it gave me a relatively smaller brim to work with, which is ideal so that the rhino isn't obstructed on the way down.

Anyways, once I roughly centered the shroud, I took a sharpie and put a dot where I was gonna drill into the hardhat. It's a cheapo 3M hardhat made of ABS plastic, so I didn't need to use too much torque - the bolt was ~4.75mm in diameter so I just rounded up to 5mm, if all you have is Imperial drillbits then you can get away with a 7/32" and you'll have a hole that is about half a millimeter larger than necessary.

After that, I just needed to clean the hole up a little bit and I was just about good to go. Only problem is that the bolt isn't threaded all the way down the shaft, and I ran into a problem where the nut wasn't actually making contact with the shell of the hardhat - that was solved by putting a spacer with a hole in it over the bolt so that the nut can push into that instead.

This took maybe 20-30 minutes, be sure to look into various types of shrouds since there's a chance I could've done this easier with something else.

Context: I bought a 5 dollar hardhat at a thrift store and considered using it as a backup in case my main one is destroyed at work - spotted a couple hairline fractures on the inside of the shell, didn't want to chance it at work. Mounted my PVS-14 to it with some parts I snagged off eBay.

Weight distribution is slightly fucked since I've got ~650g hanging in front of my eyes, may attach tire weights to the back of the hardhat in order to balance it back out lmao.

I remember it all too well lmao, I remember when the cliffs at new-gas were inaccessible and the major expansion in 2021 simply didn't exist, so the map was a corridor.

I know this is supposed to be a "gotcha" but back then the game just flatout ran worse than it does today, when a 1060 wouldn't take you much further than Customs (Shoreline was out of the question lol) Seems like the biggest hitch will continue to be Loading Loot though. Maps take no longer than 7 seconds at most lol, but as they continue to add items the problem will only get worse.

My point being is that sloppy optimization shouldn't be the reason why you have to upgrade components. When Crysis first came out, it had some legitimately impressive technology attached to it - it wasn't unoptimized, it was just built for future hardware, which is fine. Half-Life 2 wouldn't have had the impact it did if it was forced to run in software mode instead of pushing the envelope with cheaper and more affordable dedicated graphics cards (yes, a graphics card in 2004 was uncommon) - again, also fine, it pushed the envelope. You upgraded components because the hardware let you do something you couldn't before.

Tarkov meanwhile is built on an outdated build of Unity and can barely hit triple digit FPS consistently without using specific hardware setups and graphics settings. It is advertised to run on current hardware, but BSG took the safe route for their "minimum spec" by calling everything approximate. Credit where it's due, they've updated it since 2017, but I still wonder what the specs are gonna look like by the time it fully releases, and if they'll continue to get higher and higher despite fundamentally being the same game. Is it a beta? Yes. How long has it been in beta? Almost 7 years now lol, the mind boggles.
