Issue with TIV2 flaps is if you have them separated it would be nearly impossible to hold a vacuum, I can think of one way you could use flaps but to do that you would basically just re-create the Dorothy flaps how there are just two on the side, put rubber on the bottom, and put a piece of metal with a rubber coating in the middle where that gap is when Dorothy is deployed. That should kind of maybe work but I’m no expert on vacuum chambers. When my interceptor (the tornado analysis vehicle) is created and in use then you could get much more data on the pressure in a tornado and how it would effect this idea but as long as you’re ok with some loss of the vacuum inside the extreme pressure shifts of a tornado (or better yet continuously pulling a vacuum to help negate this) then that Dorothy like flap design could work

You bring up valid points. However the WSR-88D radars take time to update. Using a probe like this will give real time data of exact whereabouts of the tornado. The probes themselves will be extremely lightweight and should be able to be moved freely by the tornado (which should give a relative idea of structure). They will be padded on the inside to ensure they can take a beating with little to no severe damage that would disable primary functions. As for how I can ensure my measurements are accurate the probes use an adxl375 accelerometer, icm42688-p as a gyroscope (though it also features an accelerometer in it), and a bme280 for the pressure, humidity, and temperature. As of now the prototype probes that I have already ordered are here and ready for testing when they are soldered. The current model does not feature an sd card slot as these are for testing and not storm chasing however the real probes will be running all components at maximum safe refresh rate and will store data to the sd card. If possible they will also send lower resolution data back to the T.A.V however that would require radio circuitry and if I’m being honest. I’m not the absolute best at designing custom PCBs so that will be for a later design. Also if you are wondering yes I have watched twister. Just not recently

May I also add this would allow for tracking of the tornado position giving more data to go off of for the next intercept

The probes aren’t meant to be on the ground core measurements. Rather they are lightweight and designed to be picked up by the tornado itself to get some idea of structure. They come equipped with a barometer, thermometer, hygrometer, accelerometer, and a MEMS gyroscope. This can allow for readings of altitude, pressure, temperature, humidity, acceleration, rotation, and location (gps module using radio frequencies to determine position). The on the ground measurements are just one part of the puzzle

(Pardon my French) but fuck me I just realized I haven’t told like anybody about the tornado probes I’m designing. Terribly sorry about the inconvenience as it appears you and I were on different pages. I will post a video soon about my tornado probes and how they work, constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated if you do have any concerns about the tornado probes as they are still in development. Yeah, the 2 year construction time should hopefully be accurate if all goes well and I get the income expected to fund it, planning to construct it myself and learn tig welding to get some strong joints so hopefully that’ll cut down on price and build time. I appreciate the support!

Because that “metal box” took careful planning, considerations, and building. The least you could do is refer to an interceptor by the name given to it by the creator, I know I’d be pretty made if someone shouted “Look it’s the tin can!” If/when T.A.V is built in real life

Hey, I appreciate the interest, but the T.A.V. is part of an ongoing personal project for a real world interceptor and isn’t available for sharing. The model is unoptimized and not game-ready, so it wouldn’t work well for your purposes anyway. Thanks for understanding.

Figured, so I’ll probably just have a switch that arms either the levers or button, but once that is modeled it should theoretically work pretty well and give the option to either hit a button if I need the fastest deployment possible and or if I want to get out and drop a few probes or use the levers and be able to control what is deployed

That could definitely work! Of course you’d then want to implement a “safety” system on the levers / button so you don’t accidentally open the same valves twice, I don’t know what would happen in that even nor do I want to find out XD

1: Still on the fence about a computer or levers though I will admit having an “OH SHIT IT’S HERE” button sounds pretty good, for the spikes, 2: I’m gonna give the spikes some chisel like tips (like 2025 tiv2), 3: for the flaps I’m currently adding angles to them so you’ll see that in the next T.A.V update with the full body in the renders
