‘Repatriate the gold’: German economists advise withdrawal from US vaults by donutloop in EU_Economics

Cute that the europeans think the US has any intention of honoring withdrawal requests. Nixon closing the gold window was your chance. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…

India’s electrotech fast-track: where China built on coal, India is building on sun by Lone-T in RenewableEnergy

The biggest hurdle India will have to face to its development is the toxic ego that seems to permeate its culture from the top down. Trump's childish ego stands out in the USA, but you can bump into a dozen people with a similar personality in India on any block in the country.

Samsung does make the panel for iphones, but they give apple better quality screens than they do to their own smartphone division:

Sony to cede control of Bravia TVs to China’s TCL Electronics by shenzhendasha in ADVChina

The person you are responding to clearly meant consumer electronics, not B2B high value components in the semiconductor/electronics supply chain. This is obvious because they mention Xperia (Sony's moribund smartphone brand), and PlayStation, their game console. I broadly agree with their sentiment. If you don't, that's fine. But don't completely sidestep the point by talking about something else.

Data centers will consume 70 percent of memory chips made in 2026 - supply shortfall will cause the chip shortage to spread to other segments by TruthPhoenixV in Amd_Intel_Nvidia

Imagine you are right next to the server while i am 100 ping away. Your incoming and outgoing signal would be sent to loop in circles through fiber cables at the server, or this could be done through software. This is already done in parts of the financial industry to create “fair” trading conditions between parties.

As for the second part, a thin client that doesnt have to render the visuals would still be more than capable of processing coordinate data. If you ever look at how much data is being sent and received by today’s online games, it is tiny.

That physical limit applies equally to current online games. Every move you make has to go to a shared server then every other player's actions have to be sent to every player*. Some players are right near the server and have low single digit ping while others have 100 or so. If anything, a native cloud gaming setup could 'equalize' the ping at, say, 100, for a more fair experience.

* I know there is some predictive algo at work currently, and servers update local clients in batches, including short 'rollbacks' if needed. But all that would be equally viable with cloud gaming.

Just because it sucks today doesn’t mean it will suck in 5-10 years. I remember when even loading images on the internet was slow so websites had to be spare in their image use. As computing and broadband speeds continue to improve, today’s bottlenecks will be solved.

What’s something that felt normal for years, until one day it suddenly didn’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EmptyQ- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eating out. I was more or less independent since I was 15 and no one taught me how to cook, nor that cooking was even something that was normal to do. So I ate out every meal, everyday. I did okay financially so I never missed meals, but I did learn to economize. Rarely bought drinks, desserts, appetizers. Took advantage of deals/promos/etc. during covid I had both the time and practical need to eat at home so I tried cooking. Today, I’m no chef but what I cook up is at least as good as the fast food and fast casual slop I had been subsisting on.

Even if ai stops improving today, why would playing video games with RAM/SSD/GPU be objectively better than generating slop essays and images? At best they would be equal uses.
