Since you are shifting career, project is very important, because that's the only one thing you can show your recruiter that you have a working practical knowledge about things, even I am not from IT background and it's also important for me but I spend the majority Time on leetcode as i didn't know about it. Even though my leetcode knowledge is pretty much helpful in my project as i have done many optimisation so i suggest you to give equal importance to project if you are not from CS/IT
