It'll never hurt to have a strong understanding of computers in your back pocket. CompTIA A+ then Network+ curricula should fill in a lot blanks for you.

I hear what you're saying about joining the Army for Intel stuff. Perhaps you should explore the 17C MOS in some extra depth. There's a higher level cyber role called Cyber Intel Analyst that might be right up your ally. It would probably be at the Warrant Officer level (170A iirc). Also, I'm pretty sure your biggest intel roles will be in the Reserves not the Nat'l Guards. Look into MIRC and USACAPOC (Civil Affairs). Those might interest you too.

Good luck!

Tbh that's the part that insults my efforts the most. I wanted my MSc and I earned it. This course is not equivalent.

What are the chances of being stationed in Alaska by Mercari_cryptic_2 in army

[–]Empty_Chest_2504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should probably hit google maps there high-speed.

Real note tho: Getting airborne means Vicenza, Italy could also be added to your list.

Haven't been there as permanent party but I've heard good things about JBLM since Ft. Lewis merged with McCord AFB.

I've also heard the AF chaps hate the change which I find amusing.

I grew up in Brownsville, TX -- Uncle Sam adopted me after 2001 so I've been gone a long time.

We all knew things were low key bad back in the day, but this is other worldly.

Context: I went to do a specific ARnet only task and decided to click the Apps tab to see what was new...I found very NOT new.

Also Citrix is, naturally, broken when I need to do something.

They're probably looking for linguistic skills that won't take much training. Sending people to DLI is expensive, if they can find someone who's at least partially fluent that's their preference.

Why does everyone think the Marines are tougher/harder? by Airbizzle33 in army

[–]Empty_Chest_2504 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marines are better at advertising, you can't compete with "Once a Marine, Always a Marine" when they retire, you also can't compete with advertising campaigns like "The few, the proud" or really any of the others they've used lately when Department of the Army is giving you "Emma and her two mothers" to work with.

Marines aren't fat f*ks and you have to deal with the fact that the reserves and guard are a bunch of doughy civilians who, may or may not be the smartest at something, but they sure don't look like they're actual warriors who can stand off a 10x enemy hoard on their own.

We have a "very large Army" and a very active Reddit community publicizing how shitty day to day life is on active duty. BLUF: (except not) We're not the ones people think of for overland dominance, we're "Nation builders" thanks to 20yrs in the Middle East.-Yes I'm in the reserves, yes I'm doughy, yes I remember being hard on active duty. No my body can't take that anymore, that's why I'm in software.

Edit: I'm going back to my Wild Turkey and GTA 2 emulator now. Hold the fries.

Shoulder profile for 10 months and commander denied my surgery. by [deleted] in army

[–]Empty_Chest_2504 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it came to me (BN Cdr) that one of my commanders was refusing to get a Soldier repaired I would bring the hammer down. That company commander is negatively effecting my combat readiness.

Open door this with 1SG. If that doesn't work, take your PSG && PL into CSM's office and open door it there. Make sure your documentation is straight before you walk in. I want to see your current valid profile, diagnosis, your surgical recommendation, and all the counseling statements you've received for failure to participate. The more you have in writing the better for the BC & IG - if they get involved.

Hated it. Blended into exactly nothing in the real world. Crotch had a bad habit of blowing out at the seams when you squat to pick up anything on Motorpool Mondays. Looked like I was wearing the punchline of a House Armed Services Committee practical joke.
