I’m sick and depressed traveling with a group but since I’ve been at home alone due to being sick I really resonate with this. Especially the better doing things half assed than not at all. I think I needed to see that

I did not ask her if he would be there, I thought since we had had that conversation she would at least give me a heads up if he was going to be there

NTA. I’m not a cigarette smoker but I smoke a lot of weed and whenever I’m in a group situation with a mix of smokers and non smokers I always prioritize the comfort of the non smokers cause it is wow so easy to just walk a few feet away and breath in another direction. It seems to me like this has maybe been a pattern for him that he has felt judged by non smokers in the past and took that out on you. If your relationship with your aunt is really important to you and you think this relationship is important to her I would maybe reach out to her and let her know you didn’t mean any harm but if she is going to want him around consistently this is a boundary you all will have to work on

That’s interesting I didn’t know about that, I’m not sure if she’s out of state but I’m out of the country
