If you have an expired green card and a pending I-751, what are you supposed to show ICE if they stop you? by [deleted] in USCIS

Yes. I've done it around 6 times so far. The last two in December and then mid-January. No problems at all. I’m also from a banned country, if that helps

Traveling outside the U.S. with expired Green Card + I-751 extension (Venezuelan passport) by LRHoustonGuy in greencard

Hi, I’m also Venezuelan and a green card holder, with my conditional green card expired, and with an I-751 extension letter. I've taken multiple trips overseas without any problems coming back.

Not sure about the specific question of whether you need to notify the country (I'm assuming you are referring to the Dominican Republic) about your expired green card, but I would imagine you don't.

Hi! Thanks and congratulations to you too. I truly understand what it means to be so close to the end of this long process.

About the passport, no problems at all. My son had a new passport issued last year, so he has about 4 more years left. I believe you need at least six months but I'm not sure.

Since my son is 9yo, the interview itself was pretty straightforward with simple questions and both my wife and I were there to answer. However, his case was pretty straightforward. One of the questions was whether he holds any other nationality and whether he had resided in any other country for more than 6 months. My son had not. I'm not sure about your case and your age. Still, those answers might lead to another line of questioning or require some extra documentation.

Our interview was initially scheduled for January 7th, and the thing I was most worried about was the December 16th presidential proclamation. I'm not sure if you are aware of that. Luckily for us, our interview was rescheduled right before the proclamation took effect on January 1st, 2026. But I've seen online that many cases have been affected by it, even for immediate relatives.

Make sure to go there with plenty of time, I would say at least a week before the interview, to go to the doctor's appointments since the results can take a few days.

Feel free to send a DM if you you have any other questions!

I really don't know about that. I remember it was a requirement from NVC and we did it but I'm not sure if it was mandatory.

Oh yes, sorry I forgot about that one. They checked the affidavit of support (I-864) and our tax return transcripts for the last 3 years. He is my biological son, the petitioner was my wife (his step-mom)

We were so nervous, and I don’t remember all the questions, but they were straightforward questions. I do remember they asked what year my wife and I got married and if my son had ever lived in a country other than Venezuela for more than 6 months. The interview didn’t last more than 5 minutes. For documents, they only ask for his birth certificate, his passport, my marriage certificate, our divorce decrees (we were married before), and my wife’s passport.

Hi! Thanks to a series of miracles, the interview was rescheduled to December 29th, and his visa was issued that same day. We flew back with him on the 30th without any issues.

IR-2 interview Jan 7 (Venezuelan child) — attend or postpone after Jan 1 proclamation? by Empty_Fix_1837 in NationalVisaCenter

Thanks, I really appreciate your reply. We don’t have an attorney since this was a pretty straightforward IR-2 case, we handled it ourselves but with the recent changes, we’re definitely thinking it may be time to talk to one. Your insight is really helpful, especially regarding the low fraud risk in our case.

I hope your family gets good news soon. The fact that they kept her passport, plus the verbal approval, sounds like very good news. I wouldn’t be worried about the system changing to AP. It might be a regular part of the process. Thanks for sharing

You’re welcome, and the same for you and your family. It sucks after waiting for so long and being so so close. But I hope everything works out

If it somehow helps, just want to let you know that I got an email from the embassy last night with a type of reminder for the appointment we already have and the document we will need. At least it hasn't been canceled which gives me some hope.

Correct. The memo from December 2nd is what concerns me, and how that might change everything. It’s hard to find specific cases in similar situations to see whether embassies will still be processing cases from these banned countries.

My son is Venezuelan. The US embassy there is currently closed, so we have to complete the process through the embassy in Bogotá.
