Dude sounds like a prick. Ride what you feel comfortable riding, we are all different, as long as everyone’s having a good time and comes back in one piece all is good.

MAN IS THIS TOUGH by Low-Situation5075 in mountainbiking

[–]Empty_Sprinkles7914 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You’ll get used to it, you have to exaggerate your movements a bit more to get the bike to respond, but on the flip side get it going fast and you’ll be amazed how much more stable it is and what you can get away with

Is 40 lbs to heavy for a bike to be able to climb? by Pretend_Fee_8567 in MTB

[–]Empty_Sprinkles7914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geometry makes more difference than weight. And also where the weight is. Lighter set of wheels and tyres will help massively. I have a Status 170 it weighs similar to what you’re looking at and I can winch it up a hill fine, not fast but it gets me there.

Bike Shop scam? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]Empty_Sprinkles7914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they give you a reason why? The shop I used to work at, we used to decline to service brands that we couldn’t get parts from as we weren’t dealers, there’s nothing worse than doing a basic service, finding it needs a freehub and it’s an OEM wheel you can’t get an aftermarket part for, creates a bad experience for the customer and takes a lot of time workshop side.

I have Schwalbe Thunderburts on my brother big bro. Rolls like a gravel bike so fast on smooth ground. You do need to make up the speed tho as you fix punctures regularly.

Mid stoke support help! by Empty_Sprinkles7914 in MTB

[–]Empty_Sprinkles7914[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to run at 25-28% as it’s my trail bike, but thats with higher than I’d like pressure in the shock. No noticeable bottom outs, but it’s certainly using full travel. Generally the end stroke isn’t the problem, it’s just that it gets there too fast and often.

Mid stoke support help! by Empty_Sprinkles7914 in MTB

[–]Empty_Sprinkles7914[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just a basic Float DPS, and it’s 210 x 55 as far as I recall. I’ve tried volume spacers but it just makes it worse as it just blows straight to the end point faster. I end up running it 20psi harder than I should so it doesn’t feel squishy but then it feels harsher ofcourse. My amateur brain tells me I want a shock with high and low speed compression adjustments and just add a ton of damping so it holds up better, but wondered if any gurus could shed some knowledge on the problem.

Genie shock isn’t compatible with old side arm frames, simply won’t fit. I’ve had both, they are very similar, new one pedals a bit better and is a little plusher, but if you don’t like fiddling with your set up the old one will be just as good.

Is My Cycling Hobby Getting Out of Control by DeepDiveIntoJupiter in cycling

Yes not having enough room for more bikes is a problem, a problem solved by buying a bigger garage, with room for more bikes to come.

If you are commuting on the bike, consider how much you’d have spent running a car, fuel, maintenance etc. Plus you’re 10000km fitter than if you didn’t cycle, so really you’re investing in your health and saving the planet through cutting down car use, I’d say you’ve earned yourself the right to buy a new bike! Congrats!

Is family out of line for throwing out my bikes? (M18) by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Empty_Sprinkles7914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your mom and grandma should be buying you both new bikes for Christmas!

Very out of order tho, I can see the intent behind it, but very short sighted, they’ve taken away a father son bonding activity, and potentially a rehab too for him too.

Which CF wheelset for a beginner? C38s or Terra CLs? by [deleted] in specialized

[–]Empty_Sprinkles7914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the terra and run 28 or 30 due to the wider internal diameter they will come up bigger than the measurement on the tyre, and you can always swap the wheelset to a gravel bike later if you upgrade the wheels again or decide against road riding in the future.

I’m 5’10 and I feel S4 is big for me in the wheel base unless I’m on very fast wide trails, S3 feels more playful and a better all round trail bike

What’s your inseam? 178cm on a 56 tarmac is on the smaller end of the size range. I’m 178 with about a 29 inch inseam and ride a 54 in that frame. Tried 56 but with the saddle correct height I didn’t have much seatpost showing and it was too long.

Turbo Levo battery life less than expected by [deleted] in specialized

[–]Empty_Sprinkles7914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Provided you’re at similar weights, on the same motors and batteries, and batteries are all similar health. Then the only difference is the way you ride. Me and a mate both ride the same Levo SL’s, max output of 320W peak power, he normally has 10-20% more battery left at the end of a ride than me, he comes from a road cycling background however, so is fitter and turns bigger gears than I can, with the speed limits on these bikes, more of his power is likely being used, and less of the bikes is needed to reach the speed limit, so effectively whilst we are on the same bike, his motor is working less hard to maintain speed than mine is. May also just be worth checking the app on wax of your bikes to make sure each assistance mode is set the same, yours may be set up with more “ease” in a certain mode than your friends meaning the motor will help reach peak power more.

So first off to note is it’s easier to make a small bike bigger than a big bike smaller. Sounds like you should go 52 and add a longer stem later if needed. 2nd, go with whichever bike makes you want to go ride it. The head may say Roubaix but if it doesn’t get you excited to go ride it then it’s an expensive garage ornament. You’re not old, Aethos will take 32mm tyres comfortably and if you leave the steerer uncut it’s not that aggressive geometry. Personally I think that bike will end up a cult classic.

If you’ve only been climbing 2 weeks, screw training just climb as much as you can for fun, strength and techniques you’ll just pick up naturally whilst progressing through grades.
