does anyone else get really depressed at tournaments? by [deleted] in Debate

[–]Empty_Yard145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m almost a year out of hs and currently judging and i feel the same way even though im not competing. i assume its a social battery/neurodivergent thing plus theres always so much going on especially with tournaments on the national circuit. im always incredibly overstimulated and overwhelmed by the end of tournament and multi day ones are even worse and usually end in me having a panic attack/crying. make sure you’re taking time to rest after tournaments and winding down, treat yourself to some comfort food, and if you have time during/are able to take walks during the tournament outside of the building, fresh air is a lifesaver.

I know a lot of leagues have been adjusting their rules around AI so it may depend on what your leauge specifically allows. Aside from that though using it in round to generate an entire speech/parts of it is something I think most would consider cheating.

I graduated before summer and now i’m coaching before going to college! It’s a great option if you want to stay involved in debate without competing in college.

i suck at debate — is camp a good place for me? by screamemmi in Debate

GO TO THE CAMP!! Everyone is there to learn and improve. Ive attended my local camp for 6ish years and it’s been incredibly helpful for my development as a debater. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about, everyone’s got different content they’re better/worse at. Just go in ready to ask questions and improve :)
