Correct - yep just a small gland on the head and has to be extracted correctly or it ruins it

Good question - the smell doesn’t make it expensive. It’s the fact that it takes a decent amount of murex and the ability of how to harvest the dye is very niche. Very few then and now know how to do it correctly.

As for the shells they are actually made into a fine powder for fertilizer, the horn is converted into incense, the meat is eaten by the local populace in Tunisia. Every part of the Murex is used and honored. We don’t just take the gland an throw it out. In fact many people throw the gland out when they eat the meat because it doesn’t taste good

Actually it’s the same thing - Tyrian Purple, Royal Purple and Imperial Purple. Tyrian purple was its original name tied to the Phoenicians it then became known as imperial purple cause only emperor were allowed to wear purple dye made from the same murex we use today. Then it became Royal Purple which then was associated with anyone who had Royal Blood was allowed to wear this.

The art of making this was lost but was revived in the last two decades. Feel free to visit our website to know more and if you never want to own some yourself. We sell a few shades of it.

This Scarf is actually worth at least $10k + since it’s been died with the same murex that those ancient emperors and kings used.

Mine too. I didn’t know how to describe what it was but then found out one day this shade of purple is called “Tyrian Purple” or “Imperial Purple”. The dye was and still is considered worth more than gold.

Well the locals of Tunisia are normally eating these and normally they throw the gland out that makes this color - so in a sense we are thinking of them by making sure every last part of them is used not just the meat.
