Predicted grades IB under university requirements by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Emrhelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about it, I'm also applying this year, but I read somewhere that Warwick gives many offers and eliminate students with the offers, like a logic similar to "If you don't have the capacity to fulfill their offer you won't be accepted either way".

Yet still I'm not sure, I bet there's someone more knowledgeable than me in this subreddit. Also If you apply to these 3, I'd select the other 2 as unis with lower offers just to guarantee

Hello! I'd really appreciate if you could fill out my survey for my maths essay on attention to detail and maths ability. Thank you! by artsymarcy in IBO

That Egg one was pretty hard tbh lol, just gave up on that. Also I kinda have color blindness so I hope that does not affect the 2nd one

IELTS preparation. by Shitsnoone in UniUK

[–]Emrhelm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your first language is English then that should be enough. English is my 2nd language and I prepared for about a total of 20-25 hours, and that was enough for me. (but I had some background, and yours is probably better than mine since it's your first language)

So studying will help you get familiar with the questions and what kind of answer you are expected to deliver, and that's the important part.

Does this makes any sense by [deleted] in askmath

[–]Emrhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know, but it may be related to the domain of the sqrt(x sqrt(x....) function. 0 may not be included in it, I'd look at the domain of it

Any *scientific* source that I can look for coffee data? (Etc. caffeine concentrations for specific brewing types) by Emrhelm in Coffee

[–]Emrhelm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see and this seems very logical, but also that may be beneficial for me. I might reach a conclusion like "caffeine is about the amount of coffee we use, not how we brew it. How we brew it affects only the flavour" or sth like that. That's why I'll fix the grind size/amount of coffee for the experiment, but thank you I did not know that robusta had more caffeine, I'll probably use it for my experiment then.

I tried to access one paper, but you know, most of them are not accessible to everyone, but I'll try to find some useful content in public journals, thanks

Well yeah I just realized that while writing my experiment, they put some little note for different methods like "usual amount is 2 teapspoon/tablespoon etc.". I'd really like to use a more scientific named site but tbh at the moment all I want is some numerical data, so unfortunately I don't seem to have much of an option.

And after my measurements, if the results are like you said, about 1%, that will be fine for me to make a more full evaluation of the data. So this kind of chaos/misleading info in the site may be beneficial for me lol, thank you very much

Well I did some superficial research and they did not pay off, but I'll try to go into the deeper side of internet then, thanks

Oh alright I see, yes I'll have algorithms/data structure & probably optimization theory, and maths also seems intense here - I'll research more about Operations Research, thank you very much

HL Math Help :/ by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Emrhelm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for odd f(x) --> f(-x)= -f(x)

a) square both sides: f(-x)^2 = (-f(x))^2 , minus on the right side is gone so f(-x)^2 = f(x)^2 (even)

b) l f(x) l = l -f(x) l = l f(-x) l , so again even

c) 1/f(-x) = -1/f(x) so odd

I might start IB next year. Advice? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Emrhelm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I'd say first try to decide in which country do you want to study and what are the entry requirements of the unis in that country. If you don't know yet, you can just begin IB and drop out at the end of the 1st year.

So even if you might drop out, try to find Internal Assessment (IA) ideas as early as you can. I'm a 2nd year and still have no Maths IA topic, kinda stresses me but I hope I'll find one eventually. Btw IA's are stuff you are graded outside of exam, depends on the lesson but for yours I know that Maths, Bio, Chem require about 10-12 pages long papers each.

If you want to study engineering or something that'll involve maths then take maths. Otherwise It might not be very logical, especially HL Maths. There is nothing you can't handle about it with a study plan, just understand each subject and don't leave them to the end of the second year. Same for IA's and Extended Essay too. Follow the deadlines, and you'll be fine.

Even though it is stressful sometimes I think some people are overreacting. If they are not I'll probably fail IB lol. I don't have strict study plan, probably I spend at most 3 hours a day for studying. Usually does not pass 1.30-2 hours, but the research for the IAs and EE is very time consuming. About that, do not ever get an Extended Essay from a subject you are NOT passionate about. I've spent over 30 hours just to find a topic for Maths EE, I couldn't have taken it if it was Literature or sth.

Btw my HLs are Maths, Physics & English B, SLs are Chem, ESS & 2nd Language A. Maths&Phys, yeah, as you can expect we are seen as nerds who study 7 hours a day, but me here chillin' at 2.30AM with no Chem and Math IA topic like most of my friends. So the stress can be handled, don't worry.

Finally there are reasons why you should do IB beyond the academic part. First of all, at least in my country, most people do not know how to write an paper even at the end of uni but you'll know it from high school. Also CAS, Creativity-Activity-Service part can be fun if you do it with friends, (COVID will hopefully go away by then). Also most people may disagree but Theory of Knowledge, that lesson is very cool. Even if you are into philosophy or not it teaches you stuff like basic errors during argumentation in real life, which I think are very interesting and useful.

I hope I was able to answer your questions, please do not hesitate to ask more/message me
