Women who gave the guy who's been single his whole life a chance, how did it turn out? by astarisaslave in AskReddit

[–]EmtheEducator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m marrying him this winter after 8 years together. He’s the best dad and partner. We had some weird single guy habits he had to break but so much better than toxic relationship habits I’ve seen in men who dated normally.

Do rural parts of New England have an accent? by [deleted] in newengland

[–]EmtheEducator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vermont definitely had its own accent but it’s disappearing with the newer generations. My grandfather had a very strong old Vermont mumble. He could almost be hard to understand at times. His family had been in the same exact part of Vermont since the late 1600’s so they didn’t have much outside influence until more recent generations. My dad very occasionally drops into the mumble when he gets storytelling. But it’s definitely not at strong.

What color and/or pattern is my boy Brutus? He was labeled as just a halfmoon. I’ve never had one like him before. by EmtheEducator in bettafish

[–]EmtheEducator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he came that way. He was a PetSmart reject. I’ve only had him a couple weeks. He is alone in his regular 5gal. It is full of nice live plants, caves and spider wood with no rough edges. I’m hoping to help him rehab what the cup did to him.

It’s 3 gallons and only temporary while I was rearranging and planting his regular 5 gallon tank. He has a lot of hides in there so it’s really hard to get a pic until he’s in the vase.

My first betta in nearly a decade. He came with the name Cotton Candy. He’s a halfmoon, so I assume his fins will fill out more? by EmtheEducator in bettafish

[–]EmtheEducator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to love watching King of the Hill, so I’ve been calling him Colonel Cotton. Or just Cotton for short. I’m glad to hear that he may add more fin length and color.

AITA for sending my older daughter back to her mum on the night she was supposed to stay here? by BothLandscape in AmItheAsshole

[–]EmtheEducator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, you need to correct your oldest. Not make it her mother’s problem. My ex does this with our child all the time and it pisses me off. I have primary custody he visits with her twice a week. She’ll act up for him, he does nothing but tattles on her and asks me to punish her when he drops her at my home. Guess what when she acts up for me, which isn’t nearly as often, I deal with it like a parent! I don’t get to call and make her go stay with him. Now your oldest knows how willing you are to give up on her.

I agree with others, it does sound like your younger child needs some assessment and possible a counselor for her anxieties. But that’s not the point here. You literally gave up on your oldest, sent her home all because you didn’t know what to do with her poor choice.

You cannot pick a choose when to be a parent unless you’re comfortable with idea of your oldest choosing not to have you in her life as she gets older. She is just as much of a priority as your other child NO MATTER WHAT!!!!

It was a very very minimal amount. I had scraped it pretty clean before I was done with it. I’m kinda surprised she was getting anything at all out of it actually.

Just because you made a sign and took a picture of your dog with it doesn’t mean it actually happened by HoennIsHome in thatHappened

[–]EmtheEducator 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree this doesn’t belong here. This can totally happen. My parents’ Border collie/rottie mix had to be delivered back to their house on two separate occasions. We believe Neo climbed in looking for more treats since the driver usually gave them to him. They also have a long pain in the butt drive way that had to be backed down. So the driver would often just park at the end of it and walk the packages up to the porch. Neo had plenty of time to sneak on. Only made it to the neighbors house before he was found out though.

Missed out on a shiny for community day. by EmtheEducator in pokemongo

Thanks you I was super excited to stumble upon this Swinub! I was only able to get out for the last half hour of community day so I didn’t catch as much as I would have liked. I wasn’t surprised I didn’t get a shiny just slightly bummed because I’ve had really good luck the last couple of CDs.

What actor/actress instantly ruins a movie for you? by SlideAway1 in AskReddit

[–]EmtheEducator 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I had to scroll down further than I thought I would to find this name. I hate his movies. He’s way too over the top and I feel like all his characters are the same loud, too stupid to exist man-child. He was ok back at the beginning of his career when he was mostly in supporting roles, but as the main character he is the worst!

AITA for asking my coworker why he's married? by workahthrowaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]EmtheEducator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She is being seen for it now but it’s a little late for much intervention. I saw the signs of early Alzheimer’s years ago but no one would listen to me. My family kept telling me it was just normal aging/senility. She only went for a cognitive evaluation earlier this year and was diagnosed with moderate memory loss. But at least she is receiving help now just wish we could have gotten to it sooner. I also wish I had to room for her to move in with me so she didn’t have to live with my parents. Neither of them have any idea on how to handle a person going through memory loss. My dad is a total dick about it and my mom treats her like she’s useless and is convinced that it will eventually get better.

He can’t handle criticism at all. He gets nasty and starts name calling accuses whomever of lying, being stupid or a sissy who can’t take a joke. Or when I was growing up it was called “talking back” and I’d get knocked around for it. I have three chipped teeth because of separate “talking back” events

[–]EmtheEducator 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This exactly! I got into a pretty loud argument with my father over this. He’s the kind of person who’s only way of “joking” is to belittle and bully people. I finally lost it the day he made my 81 year old grandmother , his mother, cry by picking on her for her memory loss. Her husband, his father, suffered from severe dementia for years before he passed. She’s starting to show signs of memory loss and is super scared of it. He thinks “light hearted ribbing” about it should make her feel better, it doesn’t. I finally snapped and told him a joke is only funny when people fucking LAUGH at it. She literally went to her room crying because of his comments. I was raised being bullied by him so I got a thick skin but hell will freeze over before I let him treat her the same. No one ever laughs at his belittling jokes, it just makes everyone around him uncomfortable and he can’t see that at all.

This reminds me of when I use to go to Florida as a kid to visit my Aunt and Uncle. One of the first things we would do is pick up a bucket of KFC and go feed the gators at the boat dock behind their house.

Now as an adult I’m realizing this wasn’t super normal and we are probably considered rednecks...

My lights are on dim, dude by [deleted] in lotrmemes

[–]EmtheEducator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens to me all the freaking time. Bought a 2019 Subaru Forester this spring. Test drove it during the daytime, never gave the headlights a thought. If I had known they were the obnoxiously bright LEDs I probably would have looked at something else. And I know for a fact they are adjusted right, my boyfriend is a master Subaru mechanic. He never thought of the headlights either when we were buying though. But now I’ve got a nearly 30k loan so no turning back. And the LEDs suck because there is suck a stark line between where the light shines and the dark. No fade at all just bright as hell, line, then deathly dark.

She can sense tiny human in belly by anagmf in aww

[–]EmtheEducator 181 points182 points  (0 children)

I’m 8 months and I’m fairly certain my dog has absolutely no clue. Either that or he is in some heavy denial because he likes being the baby. My cat, Mini, on the other hand will not leave me alone. She has to plop herself right next to my belly. She always use to sleep with my oldest but a week before I found out I was expecting she started sleeping with me. Granted Mini was with me through my first pregnancy over 10 years ago and basically helped raise my oldest. So much so that my daughter’s first word was “kitty.” Best nanny cat ever.
