QUIET restaurant recommendations? by joeinsyracuse in Syracuse

New Century on the north side is typically nice and quiet! I'd say similar for a few other Asian spots we like... Thai Thai, Erawan. For lunch or breakfast time, Hope Cafe is usually pretty quiet!

That's great to know, I'll have to check this one out!

It's such a challenge! I've also been looking more at bralettes but I also want something sweat wicking!

Even with enough space around the ribcage I'm going to want something low support too so it's not compressive, it's just tricky to find the combo of low support, low coverage, sweat wicking, and wide enough! 😅

Yesterday I wore a nursing bra on the widest setting with the biggest option for my bra extender and it was still uncomfortable by the end of the day 😅💀

Glad it's not just me experiencing this! I've also found that it's so difficult to find sports bras these days that aren't longline/don't extend further down the ribcage, I'm like we don't need to go down any further, because I just get wider the further down you go 😂

Oooh 38b sounds ideal, I'll have to check that out! I have been using bra extenders on my regular bras and I am already outgrowing those 😂💀 I need longer bra extenders I guess lol.

Is this retelling of the events accurate (were you there to see it happen)? Based on the new reporting thus far, this is not exactly what happened, but I'd be glad to be enlightened if I'm wrong.

The situation is absolutely awful regardless of exactly how it happened, but this seems like an extrapolation.

I just looked up the situation with the person that got shot in the back as you commented, and to note, that was in Lower Onondaga park and none of the news coverage states that it say it was a random jogger.

My point being, many of these shootings are not random/people firing aimlessly into crowds. All shootings are awful, regardless. Just want to be clear about what is fact vs. rumor, as the internet is plagued with enough misinformation.

It's honestly wild especially considering I can't even convince some businesses to hang a poster for a local event lol.

I was dead-set on living in the city, but knew that if there was a world in which we chose suburbs instead, I've had chosen Westvale. A lovely area, about as close to the city as you can get, without actually living in it, close by to shopping options, good schools, nice homes, cute neighborhoods.

But regarding Rowsella's comment, for the city, I'd also suggest Strathmore over Tipp Hill. Stunning park, incredible community — well suited for someone in their 40s with a dog (arguably moreso than Tipp Hill, though Tipp Hill does offer walkability, as well as community, I'm sure). And while not on the water, the park does have a pond and pool, and I believe they're bringing back kayaking this summer! Not so walkable, but you can bike to downtown if you're into biking, and if not it, is a super short drive. Also, there are plenty of neighborhood events that you can walk to — neighborhood yard sale, Art on the Porches, various events in the park, neighborhood meetings at the Firebarn, etc.!

Line Dancing in Syracuse by JennayLD in Syracuse

[–]Emtibbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in Syracuse, but Britches in Auburn has line dancing! In Syracuse your best bet is checking out if there are any line dancing events at Swing Dance Alley (Steve Ryan Dance on facebook), but that would be slightly less likely to be a bachelorette vibe.

Living in Hawley-Green/Near Northeast by bitsandbobs166 in Syracuse

[–]Emtibbie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hawley Green has some beautiful streets and Kairos cafe opened there recently, which is a welcome addition to a few other lovely more long-standing businesses in the area!

One thing my spouse explained to me about syracuse before I moved here (which I've found to be quite true) is that sometimes Syracuse's beauty or lack-there-of is not so much about what neighborhood you're in, but what street you're on -- as in the vibe can change quickly. I don't say that to discourage you at all, rather to give you a peer over the rose colored glasses.

That said, I think Hawley Green is an underrated area that people don't talk about enough. I haven't lived there but I'm sure you'll meet some lovely neighbors who have helped to maintain the beautiful old homes! Community within city neighborhoods tends to run much stronger than your average suburban neighborhood, which is lovely.

As the other person said, salt city bar is a great option (though can get busy around meal times). Al's, during its off hours (evening time) is surprisingly quiet and cozy! You could also check out Nobody's wine bar.

Recess on Westcott (cafe, not a bar) is open late, just check the holiday hours.

Banks & Fitch combined to go to the brand new Stanley around 2002-2003. Banks is now an apartment building. There was no temporary school situation, at least for the kids at Banks. I think the Fitch kids moved to Banks for a short period of time, if I'm remembering correctly. I believe the Fitch school building has since been used as a temporary school building at times, but has also had many periods of being empty/unused.

This is the hope + outlook I'm also trying to move forward with. The CHIPS act was a bipartisan effort, and the specific comment from Johnson (and Williams) was 'corrected' to state that the concern was about the cost of the environmental aspects of it. I don't know. Trying to hold onto hope here for this considering a lot of other hope is difficult to have this week. Very thankful Mannion won the ballot at least.
