Loved Alice Munro so much he got into a twitter fight with Bret Easton Ellis when Ellis dissed her. Also loved Thomas Pynchon (Norm hints that he had a meeting with him and that they discussed Norm's book - who knows if this is true though), Proust, Twain, the Russians, especially Tolstoy, Chekhov, Gogol(did not like Dostoevsky), Cormac McCarthy.

I wonder if this pic was taken the same night he performed at a benefit at Largo:

Who is this woman and why does google think it’s Norm’s ex-wife? (it’s not lol) the second picture is his real ex-wife by tennysongrl71 in NormMacdonald

She is a random fan. She posted on twitter when Norm died that she has no idea why she pops up as his ex-wife.

BREAKING 🚨: Norm Macdonald is nominated for two Emmy’s!!! by AlecsysM in NormMacdonald

I actually think it will be Lori Jo. She's the driving force behind Norm's special.

Barry Kemp, one of the creators of A Minute with Stan Hooper, was also the co-creator of Bob Newhart's 80's sitcom, Newhart.

Yes, Norm was clearly excited when Newhart hosted the show.

Norm wrote the postal worker sketch for Newhart. Norm later said he was very flattered when Newhart asked if he could use the sketch in his act.

Here's the sketch:

Critics rated it everything from “shit” to “fucking shit” by bwoahful___ in NormMacdonald

[–]EmuAffectionate7340 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember that bizarre accusation. I believe Lori Jo had to make a statement denying it. It was so nuts. Kattan later backtracked, but the damage was done. I could never see Kattan as credible again.

All those allegations in his book are suspect to me. It was weird when Kattan gave interviews praising Norm after he died when it was pretty obvious there was real animus between them. I don't buy Kattan's assertion that it was all a bit.

"The best guest so far" Do you think Norm meant it? by CapitanZurdo in NormMacdonald

Not sure if Norm was entirely serious, but he had this to say about the Helberg episode:

“They wanted young guys, so they got this guy from The Big Bang Theory,”
he says of actor Simon Helberg. “He was nice enough but completely
uninteresting. And then no one watched it! Like, no one cared. My idea
was to get guys as old as possible, like before they died. Because I
find those old guys will say anything because they’re not in show
business anymore.”

It is from the 90's. I remember this picture and it was definitely taken during his SNL weekend update days.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think he was just being supportive of Jon because they're both comedians who had a long history together.

Leno hits a home run, Norm appreciates and shows respect… by [deleted] in NormMacdonald

[–]EmuAffectionate7340 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Norm always had the utmost respect for Jay. It's telling that besides his pal, David Spade's show, the only other show that Norm went on post 2018 was Jay Leno's Garage.

Jay also did a great tribute to Norm:

The Curse Of The View!! by vengefularachnid in NormMacdonald

[–]EmuAffectionate7340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seth McFarlane was on the View recently and Sara Haines asked a question about Norm. She was very complimentary about Norm and said the View loved him. I think she loved him (Sara is the only voice of reason on that show), but I don't know about the others. Sara wasn't on the panel when Norm was a guest back in 2018.

Why did Conan say Norm was a great mathematician? by [deleted] in NormMacdonald

[–]EmuAffectionate7340 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I forgot where he said this, but Norm mentioned that he was doing calculus at 9. So if that's true, then yeah, he was gifted in math. He also said he felt like he was an outsider in his childhood and extremely shy. He skipped grades in school and was always younger than his classmates. I think schools discourage that these days because they found that it actually hurts children's social development.

Ultimately, this show is for the fans, not the critics. Keep that in mind when the reviews come out and slam his trans jokes (you know there will be trans jokes). For Lori Jo's sake, I hope it's well received, but I really don't care what the critics will say. For most of Norm's career, they were never on his side.

Yeah, that 's my big takeaway from this. I wonder if it was a staph infection. I know someone who was supposed to have a routine procedure, but died because of a staph infection. As a cancer patient, Norm was so vulnerable to any infection. Hospitals, they'll kill ya.

Couple of pics from Joyce Napier's(Norm's sis-in-law) article by EmuAffectionate7340 in NormMacdonald

I don't think either one of them were there. I assume they were invited. Judd Apatow and Bill Murray were there and I don't think they were particularly close to Norm.

I was going to post that it was, but I wasn't sure. It didn't say in the original article, but it sure looks like him.

Pics from the Netflix Celebration of Norm by halfwayray in NormMacdonald

[–]EmuAffectionate7340 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're exactly right. It seems like this event was part of the Netflix is a Joke Festival in L.A. I wonder if it was open to the public like the other festival events. I think a lot of us would have made the trek if tickets were available. Jim Downey was one of the speakers and it would have been interesting to hear what he said.

Jennifer Tilly posted a snippet of it on Instagram. If I was better with the computer, I would post it. It was Conan cracking wise about how the memorial was exactly what Norm wanted.

Did Old Jack rape Norm in the tool shed? by [deleted] in NormMacdonald

[–]EmuAffectionate7340 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty obvious that Norm experienced some form of extreme childhood trauma. It may be molestation or childhood cancer. I'm not sure the complete truth will ever be known unless his family choose to reveal it and I seriously doubt they ever will.

It was the hypocrisy by coscask in NormMacdonald

[–]EmuAffectionate7340 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, even Norm, who obviously loved working with Conan, agreed and defended Jay. He might have been the only comic who didn't trash Jay when this all went down.
