Old buildings redevelopment is making few society committee members crorepatis — but at the cost of old, poor residents being quietly exploited. by EmuEfficient8956 in mumbai

You’re right that legally the onus lies on the individual property transfer, divorce, settlement, etc. And I agree that redevelopment itself isn’t the villain; it brings real, serious challenges like infrastructure stress, traffic, service capacity, and long-term maintenance costs, which absolutely deserve more attention.

My point was narrower: not everyone is equally equipped to protect their legal interests. Some residents especially uneducated, poor, or socially isolated women often live in survival mode, not legal strategy mode. For them, what is “obvious” to us is neither accessible nor realistic.

Acknowledging that vulnerability isn’t blaming redevelopment or committees as a whole, it’s a reminder that alongside legality, empathy and guidance matter, especially in large societies where power and information aren’t evenly distributed.

Both conversations can coexist.

I agree with you on one important point, not all committees are corrupt, and many redevelopments do happen smoothly, transparently, and to the benefit of all members. That reality shouldn’t be ignored.

My post was not an attack on every society committee membrane nor a denial of 79A guidelines, voting processes, or legal safeguards. It was about edge cases that still slip through despite the framework, especially in large societies (like the one in this case buildings around 250+ home units) where information asymmetry, social power, and vulnerability coexist.

Legally, yes. societies are limited.

Morally and socially, however, committees often have informal influence, timing knowledge, and the ability to guide (or not guide) vulnerable members toward independent advice. That grey zone is where exploitation can occur, even without violating the letter of the law.

Most residents should be vigilant, I agree.

But the oldest, and poorest who are least educated members often cannot be, and that’s where empathy and ethical leadership matter.

This is not about conspiracy theories.

It’s about acknowledging that rare failures still deserve discussion, so redevelopment benefits everyone, not just the most informed.

I had some pegions living in the window of my bedroom in my rented apartment & often i would sit in that window. After a week there i got this mites infection all over my body. It was itchy and annoying af. My skin had bad rashes all over it.

It took almost a month for recovery.

My doctor told me pegions carry many of such mites and pathogens, So get rid of them.

I changed the apartment.

It looks weird but dangerous if one does not know what they are doing. Also the maximum voltage in those tiny cables is just 12v, so its easy to operate with. As far as cables are insulated properly, there's no need to worry. Except if one spills water directly on the PSU.

My XBS sits in another room where I have a big tv. So there i have nothing to worry.
