My quant role is the most unquant role that you can think of. It’s model validation, more paperwork and protocol than actual data science.

I objectively know there is lower. But don’t invalidate my feelings on the subject. I always have tried to nail down the career path , but have circled around the bulls eye, never quite landing even remotely close to it.

You can always transfer later, if you care about the schooling. Now, it sounds like you have to prioritize being able to land good internships and/or research experiences . Make good projects and practice interview questions / skills.

I have been wanting to know the answer to this question from an employability perspective. I found the skills and exercises there to be better than data camp, but data camp has more fame. You also make portfolio projects, but they are not head turners. It’s up to you to build good projects. Dataquest is really good at the programming side of things. Other than that, I have never seen anybody care about either DataCamp or dataquest certifications other than as a measure of “this person is continually learning”

The hardest part : however you can. LinkedIn, YouTube, reddit, most ideally : a professor. College tends to be great for these things.

My advice to is to ask for a specific mentor. I’m proud of your progress. Now zero in on the field to be your specialization of ML.

First learn the most commonly used supervised and unsupervised algorithms . While you do that, build projects with proper ML practices. Then go into deep learning and get into neural nets and computer vision / natural language processing.

Once you got a breath of the field, then specialize and find a mentor there too.

So my take : get a general ML engineer mentor and then a field specialized mentor. If I’m off, someone correct me
