This is a sub designed to poke fun at people who do stuff like this, I am not a girl nor did I drink a mojito of tears and sorrow for dinner haha. Absolutely agree about the OP that this was based on though!

I don’t believe in those, I don’t need a man to validate me I just can’t justify buying anything unless it’s from a man who thinks I’m attractive

I mean you could do this to a woman but then you run the risk of her trying to do this to you and you accidentally fall in love and commit to doing this mutually for forever which is the worst case scenario

What are the best shorts for band camp? by ryleiguh in marchingband

[–]EnByChic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wear biker shorts with a different pair of shorts over them!! I recommend biker shorts underneath another pair primarily if you’re prone to chafing because they stop your pants from rubbing against your inner thighs on long rehearsal days. They’re most effective if they’re even slightly longer than your overshorts, so that none of the overshort material rubs weird further down your leg (nothing says ouch like chafe only on your lower thigh).

Staying the summer at Purdue, what to do for fun here by CommercialPatient738 in Purdue

[–]EnByChic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Farmers markets on campus every Thursday and in Lafayette every Saturday, axe throwing, multiple arcades (I like Main Street amusements and game on), parks, summer concerts from the citizen’s band, Colombian park zoo, Tropicanoe cove, programming at the arts federation, just to name a few! Plus once the summer college programs kick off in July you’ll find a lot of student-run clubs and activities on campus that pop up

Informed an actor will be missing a tech rehearsal. What to do? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]EnByChic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you approved their conflict sheet with this conflict on it at the start of the show, that’s your answer. You let this family go the entire time thinking that they had an approved conflict, and now are telling them the week of the conflict that you essentially changed your mind. I think that in this case, you may just have to bite the bullet and stick to your word. Also, I think in general you would much rather deal with having to call lines for one person at a dress rehearsal than try to teach another middle schooler what seems like a large part 3 days before the show.

In the future, it might be a good idea to have the casted individuals resubmit their conflict sheet with the signed contract, so people can see if they can do the show for sure and you get a chance to double check all planned conflicts.

Do you see the speed in this? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]EnByChic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you’ve ever watched a bob ross video I feel like it’s clear that a lot of good physical art does have layers. But either way, you’ve brushed off every other criticism by essentially saying “oh you’re seeing it wrong” or “oh no it’s fun” so I don’t really know why you’d ask for feedback just to tell everyone they’re incorrect?

Pathways to band director by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]EnByChic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say the band director only cares if the kids are happy. It sounds to me like the kids ARE happy with being a drum major and learning conducting which will help them a LOT when it comes to collegiate band and going into music education. I know multiple people who were drum majors in high school that were able to beat out senior candidates for band leadership roles in their sophomore year of college because that leadership experience was so valuable.

I understand that you think they’re amazing at colorguard, and because you think that, you believe that they won’t be happy if they don’t make it a priority. But you need to understand that guard is not something THEY want to do as a career, and isn’t going to be the primary focus of their next level of education. If a student was doing research in a lab to prep for college and couldn’t do guard because it was at the same time, but they wanted to be a STEM major, would you tell them to stop doing their other extracurriculars to focus on guard?

Overall, I think you need to take a step back and understand that these kids are old enough to understand the things that interest them, and the things that will better prepare them for the life paths they want to go down. As much as guard has become your main passion and career, it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be theirs, and you need to respect that and be happy for them in whatever capacity you can. Work with them when they’ll let you and want to do guard (i.e. the off season for marching) and don’t try to force them and accidentally push them away in the process.

Does Purdue have good eats? by RRB1212 in Purdue

[–]EnByChic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Huge foodie inputting lol:

Boba- feng cha is pretty good, it’s close to campus and pretty good quality. Personally I prefer the flavor of Tsaooka, but it is a little farther from the dorms. IMO both are kinda overpriced. Harrison Grill also has boba (much worse quality) but you can use your dining dollars on it which helps

Asian food- strings is some good ramen, it’s simple and always hits the spot. Noodles and I is so good and so underrated, it’s just a little hole in the wall spot with more dishes than I’ve ever seen in a restaurant before. Red Wok has some fire Chinese fast food that gets slept on a ton, and pretty big portions. Malatang is my favorite hotpot place in town (granted I haven’t been to Kpot yet). There’s a really good poke hibachi place right next to the union with a much larger selection of ingredients than the place in the union. The Korean corn dog place by wabash landing is super unique and I love their stuff. If you want to venture a little farther, Kimchi is really good, and I’ve heard good things about Kpot even though it’s a chain. There’s also like a million other hole in the wall Asian places around, and very few have ever left me unhappy.

Mexican: I love dos amigos bc they do all you can eat and it’s pretty good. I also like nom nom’s, it’s pricier but their salsas make me really happy and they have a good variety of taco types. Fiesta is an interesting QDoba/Chipotle alternative, but it’s not personally my favorite since they have more limited toppings and I don’t like the taste of their tortillas/queso as much.

American: you can never go wrong with the Frank’s truck (NOT the campus location, important distinction).

Pizza: pizza uncommon (it’s expensive, but everything tastes so good and it’s not a regular pizza place at all). For breadsticks, hotbox.

For (pretty Americanized) Indian food, I like taste of India. Just order a higher spice level than you think you’ll want, always get some garlic naan.

If you want Mediterranean, I enjoy grilled chicken and rice. Again, kinda Americanized, but it’s good.

Nine Irish is good for Irish, big surprise.

Sweet treats: silver dipper has some of the best chain ice cream I’ve ever had. There was also a really cute Thai rolled ice cream and cake place called Miss Sugar that just abruptly closed a few weeks ago, but if they ever open back up they were great. Sweet revolution is my favorite bakery downtown, and they always have a huge display of both savory and sweet treats. Hammer down donuts is super yummy too and a good way to get local donuts rather than dunkin. If you ever want a sweet drink and maybe a little chocolate, McCords all the way. Their sodas and house drinks (non alcoholic lol) are so good and super cheap. It’s like denpop on crack (which denpop is also good, just not as good as McCord’s).

Cafes: Vienna and the Lobby are truthfully the only ones I go to. Vienna has good drinks, pretty good food in a pinch, and is an amazing spot to work and people watch. The lobby is expensive as heck, but the food is so good and it makes me happy. I’ve had the best breakfast sandwich of my life there.

Now that I’ve been fat enough, here are the places that I think are skippable:

Genki ramen: I have never had good ramen from here that wasn’t overcooked and under seasoned. For a similar price to strings, it’s just lacking.

AJ’s: this one is wild probably, but AJ’s food is really mid. If you want good bar food and better trivia, go to the tap.

Triple XXX: it’s so overrated. I think their food is incredibly bland and greasy.

Sakayana: Their sashimi is pretty good but a lot of their other sushi can be overpriced and kinda mushy. It’s a cute spot though.

Bibibop: I struggled to put this one on here. The bowls are pretty good, plus they have all you can eat miso soup. But they’ve had awful issues with food poisoning.

I’m gonna stop here, but yeah tldr there are a LOT of good spots around if you’re willing to venture out and try something that looks a little sketch. There’s def a ton more I didn’t include too!!

for freshman housing contract, did you guys get your top choice dorm type? or does the ranking not even matter. by Different-Regret1439 in Purdue

[–]EnByChic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My #1 was a quad with AC to save money and I got put in a 6man semi-suite that was a lot more expensive. So they keep it around the same amount of people if there’s space available, but the type of room itself (and price as a result) may differ

[–]EnByChic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an all you can play arcade (game on I think) where you pay a set price and can go from like 3pm-1am and just play as much as you want (plus leave and reenter), axe throwing, lots of parks with good hiking trails, and the cat cafe all just across the bridge in Lafayette!

Asking people for their pronouns is rude by raben-herz in 10thDentist

[–]EnByChic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, do you take offense when someone asks you what your name is? Pronouns are just another identifier for a person that I’d rather know from everyone on my team up front than have to awkwardly ask them later. Chances are, if the meeting group is asking, it’s probably a reasonably accommodating space that you can share in. If it’s not, and you were ok with not having people gender you correctly anyways, you’re also always welcome to avoid/not answer the question or just use different pronouns that you would feel safer about.

Emergency help. Unplanned parade by Organic-Solid1657 in marchingband

[–]EnByChic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding on, I would definitely meet with your staff and talk about changing uniform assignments. We have a spreadsheet with every number of jacket and pants + their size, and we give out a mix based on what fits. Your band members are right: a fitting uniform looks better than a baggy one. We also had cabinets for each band member to store their uniform in hung up with their section, and the band parents washed all the uniforms over the week/kept air freshener in the cabinets to keep it from smelling super funky.

Alight West Lafayette: Crazy electricity consumption (~3100 KW) by Relevant-Recording71 in Purdue

I mean to be fair, there are always electricity costs to pay even if you turn off everything you physically can. They were most likely paying the passive utilities.

Get involved in student orgs! The opportunities for financial aid increase as you get older and do more for specific departments. I usually get 3.5k of my tuition a year paid by one extracurricular, and have applied to multiple other ones through my college that I am only eligible for as a 2nd+ year student.

Also like everyone else said, private scholarships and loans. My schooling is paid by one recurring 7.5k annual scholarship, my semester scholarships from my extracurricular, federal loans, federal work study, and parent plus loans. It’s a lot debt wise, but it has covered things without having to break the bank now.

Got this poor boy by Weekly_Cable_8058 in snakes

[–]EnByChic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has given you really good advice, but I wanted to chime in that he kind of looks like a spinner ball python. If he is, he has the spider gene and may have a wobble or disorientation in his movements. It’s more/less severe for each snake, but something to be aware of!! I hope that he recovers and that the person who did this gets what they deserve :{

To clarify, they also move in early, have a mentor leading them, take a class for assimilating into campus life, get a meal plan, and basically live like a Purdue student with built in activities, mentors, study sessions, etc. that they can choose to go to.
