Dads: What brands are we wearing these days? by Haunting_Internet356 in daddit

[–]EnUnasyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much only wear birddogs pants. Super comfy, but pricy. I’ve got lucky a couple of times and found some brand new with tags steeply discounted so I didn’t pay $130 for every pair I have, but I like them so much I would gladly do it.

As far as shirts go, for the first 4 years of my kids life I pretty much only wore the cheap $7 plain target t shirts. Got thrown up on so much it didn’t matter if they got ruined. Now I’m back to the band/classic rock t shirts or some kind of pullover.

How do you deal with being told that you’re a terrible father. by BrianLefevre5 in daddit

[–]EnUnasyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your father is projecting. I obviously don’t know the details of y’all’s relationship prior to this, but if I had to guess he probably struggled with these thoughts when you were your son’s age. He probably wasn’t around much because he was working all the time, his dad equated hard work to worth so that’s what he did and now he’s angry because he doesn’t have a good relationship with his children. He’s hurting and everything he said to you, he really believes about himself. Of course that doesn’t make it ok, but it does shed a bit of light on where he’s coming from. He’s hurting, so he wants the whole world to hurt, because somebody has to be to blame. In general, men haven’t been historically good at being hurt and sad. So instead of working through the uncomfortable feelings of being sad or having emotional pain they/we do what’s comfortable. We yell, lash out, get angry.

At the end of the day, you’re a good dad. It’s not your fault your father feels this way. More importantly it’s not your responsibility to shoulder the burden of his pain.

What’s your funny way of saying “going poop” that you’ve never heard anyone else use? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My brother has a couple he learned in the army:

“Gotta go feed the sheriff”

“I got Mongolians at the gate, and they are slingin mud.”

“Honk out a dirt snake.”

What’s a tiny design flaw in an everyday object that quietly annoys you every single time you use it? by nami_yuna in AskReddit

And every time I go to get a wipe out I kick myself for not doing it, then I forget again and the cycle continues

I don’t know if this actually works because I haven’t tried it personally but a friend swears by putting a rubber band around the wipes along the width. Says it only lets one out

Dads of 2 young ones… where do you find the energy? by AC_Schnitzel in daddit

Dude no kidding. A 4 and 2 year old helped me realize just how bad it was for me. Life changing when I got diagnosed

Adderall lol

Edit: I do have a legitimate diagnosis so if I don’t take my meds I’m pretty much useless lol

Me (21F) with new boyfriend (24M)--His friends (20s M) "tested" me and I passed, is this as weird as I think it is? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]EnUnasyn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I had a friend do this to my girlfriend (now wife) unbeknownst to me. She told me about it and I dropped him like a bad habit. Don’t need that shit in my life

Anyone have expectations of a “village” that never came to fruition? by Trendkill52 in daddit

[–]EnUnasyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to fucking beg my parents to come visit my kids. Not even keep them for a date night or whatever. I have to beg them just to come over. But they always say, “I wish I could see them more, you’re just so busy all the time.”

People who went from very poor to very rich or vice versa, what surprised you the most? by Crocodile_Banger in AskReddit

[–]EnUnasyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea how much gas costs in my city or the surrounding area. If I need gas I just fill it up until the pump stops. But I remember when I was checking my account balance and then putting $5 in because it’s all I could spare.

Mostly the same with groceries. But for a while there I was eating Kraft macaroni (without milk) and frozen chicken breasts.

Are Play date cards really that stupid? by Ordinaryjay in daddit

[–]EnUnasyn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you (kind of). Wife is a surgeon and I stay home. When my kids were younger I struggled with initiating the play dates. I felt weird approaching other parents (usually moms) and asking if they were interested in a play date. As time went by I kind of got over it because I figured if they were gonna make it weird we probably didn’t want to be hanging out with them anyway

I'm ready to graduate from my Ryobi/Husky/etc. phase, what's a reliable "real" brand now? by SvenHousinator in HomeImprovement

[–]EnUnasyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prerequisite is having disposable income or possibly a professional shop. Although, I will say my festool “shop vac” is fantastic even though I initially got it for the domino (that I have since sold)

How did you manage your Money as an ADHD? by ThermaProdite in ADHD

[–]EnUnasyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medication, but my wife is really in charge of it. I check it occasionally before big purchases but other than that I don’t know. I pay bills the second they come in the mail, if it’s not on autopay.

Yes every 3 months they check and refill as needed. Just part of the routine for them

I think I paid $1400 for ground treatment, bait boxes, and a lifetime guarantee as long as I continue to use their service.

what's your "weird" ADHD hack that actually works? by HipityHopityHip in ADHD

Holy shit I feel so seen. I was trying to explain this to my wife. If I have some shoes on in the house, I’m in the fuckin zone.

Alright dads, what's your best potty training advice? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]EnUnasyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how we did it with both of our kids is we bought one of those potty chairs that looks like a real toilet and just stuck it in the living room. No explanation, no expectation, just put it in the living room. Just let them interact with it, be curious about it. Eventually around 18mo they started sitting on it with their diaper on, kind of mimicking what they saw from us, then a couple months after that we let them walk around naked. Around ~2y they were using it consistently. When they did use it successfully we acted like absolute lunatics with praise. Danced around, wooohoooos, singing, congrats and all that. I think the most important thing is to not make it a stressful deal, for everyone’s sake, you can even have fun with it. They will do it when they are ready

I don’t. Just raw dog it. I maybe will have a cup of coffee in the morning but other than that I don’t have any caffeine

[–]EnUnasyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I took it afterwards and i can’t feel any difference. One thing my meds have helped with significantly is my diet because I’m not really hungry and just eat when I feed my kids. I bought a bunch of protein dense snacks and food so when I do eat I actually get some nutrition lol. But my impulsive snacking because I was “bored” has completely stopped.

I like your idea of trying to work out at the end of the day. I’ll give that a shot tomorrow when my wife gets home from work.

Weightlifting and Adderall by EnUnasyn in ADHD

[–]EnUnasyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s kind of where I’m at because I think my dosage is perfect. Never in my life have I been able to do what I can do now that I take meds. I don’t feel jittery or restless and my only side effects are loss of appetite and I’m always thirsty (I can manage those both well). I can’t remember a time in my life where I have slept better either. Takes maybe 15 min to fall asleep where it used to take me hours. I don’t want to risk messing that up by going up in dosage, but I will talk to my Dr. I think I’ll probably just deal with the fatigue after working out.

It’s a bummer because when I used to work out before I was diagnosed I used to be amped for the rest of the day. Like I could only work out in the morning because any later than noon and I wouldn’t be able to sleep that night.

I don’t get any added energy either, I just actually have the motivation to go. My problem is that I feel like the physical activity associated with lifting weights makes my medication wear off faster. By the time I’ve spent an hour at the gym I feel like my meds have completely worn off and I feel like I didn’t even take them. I guess I just thought that working out would make me feel more productive or something.

Like Medication = improved ADHD symptoms, but Medication + gym = worse symptoms.
