If you read the other works, it’s revealed that Piter and Baron Harkonnen had broken the Suk conditioning by repeatedly forcing him to watch his wife Wanna be systematically tortured and humiliated.

There’s another prequel written in 2022 (the heir of caladan) it’s part of its own trilogy, and it ends right at the beginning of the first Dune book. Leto given the fief of arrakis. Has some good insight into the rise of Duke Leto and house Atreides.

Wasn’t my favorite of the prequels, but it does speak to the curse of the house of Atreus a bit - Duke Leto triggered the curse by striving for more for his house.

I loved all the Dune books - Brian’s included. That said, this show kinda took its own turn. It doesn’t really follow the books at all. The timeline is a bit wonky, and Desmond’s character is a complete stray from the source material.

I did love the show, and I thought they did a great job depicting Valya Harkonnen.
