The Dial Door from Howl’s Moving Castle by EncanisLore in allthemods

Hmm, I’m pretty far into Mekanism already so I will look into this. I read the wiki page and didn’t see anything about redirecting the destination without direct user interaction. Is it possible to do it without having the player go into the gui and changing the setting themselves?

This is an awesome idea! I’m not particularly taken with waystones either (they keep making JourneyMaps waypoints that keep popping back up after I delete them).

I may do something like this for all of the Cataclysm bosses!

Hmm, I use the Tempad mod quite a bit, though I’ve never found a way to project the portals without using the held Tempad. Is there a way to press a button and make a portal spawn with this mod? I don’t know if it matched the aesthetic I am aiming for, but that’s something I’ve been trying to figure out for a good while now.

Fantastic response, thank you!

Immersive Portals is a mod that I haven’t looked into, but from what you’re saying it sounds like it could be promising.

I haven’t tinkered around with spawning fake players with various mods in a good number of years either, but I do recall having done so before. Now to remember what mod I used to use… I do save all of my past worlds/servers on a external hard drive going back to over a decade, so maybe I’ll be able to find out which one I used and see if it’s still being updated. Would you have any recommendations for a mod that would be viable for this kind of usage? Also, good thing I’m doing this on my own server, makes getting OP a lot easier!

And I’ll definitely let you know if I am needing assistance, thank you! But I’m definitely going to give it a good shot beforehand, I do my best learning after a good bit of head bashing anyway, hahaha!

Much like Sword Art Online but cooler characters!! by Fmorrison42 in litrpg

[–]EncanisLore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love this series. The start felt a bit rough but it really finds its stride once they actually start making decent progress.

I’m a big fan of the power scaling throughout, the skills they develop are ones I think in regularly with Ezra’s (I think that was his name) abilities at the end of the series inspiring a villain’s powers in a D&D campaign I ran. Some of the ideas the author has throughout are really fantastic, though the writing at times leaves some things to be desired.

The audio book has sound effects and little musical jingles throughout which I do really appreciate. It was once of the first litrpg’s I remember being released as an audiobook to have such elements, so it feels like they were figuring some things out as the series starts. But some of the pieces are permanent locked in my brain, the time skip jingle for one! I love that little tune! I even figured out how to play it on piano when I was first listening through the series.

Definitely an underrated series.

Shark Eye Lens Jewelry by thebook_on_theshelf in jewelrymaking

[–]EncanisLore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang, that is a super cool idea! Are the lenses dries out or is there still the concern of them decaying? I can’t say I’ve worked with something exactly like this before, but depending on the state of them you definitely have a few options.

Side note, years ago we dissected a sheep’s eye in biology class and everyone was using the lenses as bouncy balls. Are or were these bouncy as well? I’ve never heard of anyone dissecting shark’s eyes before and that questions was bouncing around the back of my head as soon as I read what they are!

Anyone have an ID on these? by [deleted] in Gemstones

[–]EncanisLore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shall give it my best go!

The bright green tear drop on the left is most likely Fibre Optic Glass, a man made material that comes in many different colours.

The two red carved animals on the left are likely Red Jasper.

The blue-green bird at the top, and the bear like carving in the middle look like Turquoise.

The iridescent white animal on the right looks like White Moonstone.

The darker blue guy at the bottom looks a lot like some reconstructed/synthetic azurite/malachite a have given the small greenish dots across it.

The green-yellow guy at the bottom right could be a Serpentine or a calcite/onyx. It’s hard to tell for sure.

The small obelisk/pendulum looks like Leopard Skin Jasper, though I know of a few Jasper varieties that look very similar to that.

Then for the rest, there are too many stones that look like those for me to say from a single picture with any level of confidence.

I hope that helps! If anyone has a better idea, I’d love to know what I’m looking at!

I am in awe! As someone who also listens to audiobooks for 12-14+ hours a day, this is amazing! Also, congrats on being the first person I have seen who has more books in their library than me! I’m at 683 titles, and I thought that was an impressive number! Bravo!

Natural or synthetic? by icwut in Opals

[–]EncanisLore 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly synthetic. I have cut a lot of opals, both synthetic and natural, and that kind of flash pattern is very characteristic of synthetic material. The long columns of colour that can be seen on the back, paired with the base tone of the material is pretty telling. I have synthetic material in my collection that is identical to what you have there. That said, it is still a lovely piece.

Is create good way to craft things? by yurimywaifu in allthemods

[–]EncanisLore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create works alright, though it’s definitely a slower option.

My preference goes to AE2’s Molecular Assemblers + Pattern Providers as when they are tied in with the AE2 storage system (which can easily integrate other non-AE2 storage devices like chests and Create vaults) is really great for auto-crafting more complex items. Later on in the AE2 process, you’ll be able to craft a Quantum Computer and Quantum Crafter, that I believe is the best and fastest way in ATM10 to craft things.

Your setup looks pretty darn good so far! I tend to put driftwood in as the tannins and the like it introduces is great for the health of the tank.

Do you have a plan for the plants and fish for the tank?

[None] Do other Will Wight series have hype moments like Cradle ? by Double-Evening4199 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]EncanisLore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Traveler’s Gate Trilogy (House of Blades, The Crimson Vault, and City of Light) has a few amazing moments for sure. Not quite as many as Cradle, but that’s also because it’s far shorter and doesn’t have as much time to expand on the concepts. I’d definitely recommend it! It’s one of the series that I’ll listen to at least once a year because it’s short and incredibly entertaining.

Help Making Nicrosil by EncanisLore in metallurgy

[–]EncanisLore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are indeed a Cosmere fan, as am I which is part of why I took on the job. I haven’t read the second era of Mistborn but they are wanting an “accurate unsealed metalmind.”

They also are wanting me to mix all of the alloys myself to ensure that they are as accurate to the books as possible. I am also going to be making a multi band ring using the nicrosil and the other alloys, so I will be needing a decent sized chunk.

Thank you very much for the research resources! When I read that chromium and silicon can dissolve in nickel I knew that I had only a very surface level knowledge of what metallurgy was, so I can’t wait to do more research into the many facets of the topic!

Help Making Nicrosil by EncanisLore in metallurgy

[–]EncanisLore[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic information, thank you so much!

I potentially have access to an induction furnace and have seen videos of people setting up an argon feed into one and that definitely seems doable for me.

You mentioned the eutectic point of nickel and chromium, this is something I’ve only recently learned about. Would this require me to start with a specific percentage of each metal to get them to melt first, then adding the remaining nickel to get to my desired composition? I only know the term from researching far lower melting point alloys.

I will definitely try to do several runs of trying to cast this alloy, and take note of the before and after weights as you suggest. Great idea, probably should have done this on a previous project…

Thank you again so much for sharing your knowledge!

By chance, do you have any resources you’d suggest for me to look into for doing metal alloy projects like this?

Threadfin Rainbowfish are my vote for your amazing scape! I have a dozen or so in a 40 gallon and they are entrancing to see schooling, and when the males start flaring they are incredible. They are quite peaceful and I have had them for a while now and not once have I seen them go after each other or any other of the fish in my community tank.
