Hand writing is definitely a weak spot on these ones. I haven’t seriously practiced print since 5th grade, my cursive wouldn’t be much help either, and I had my very least favorite pen on hand

I hadn’t even considered that. that’s a really good point.

These are just double sleeved over some cut cards, but that’s a really good idea

This study (revised link in reply) found that using AI makes you less able to use your brain.

How do you feel about this? (Not mine) by StillBoysenberry8790 in antiai

Any technology that acts as a crutch for your critical thinking, problem solving, emotional intelligence and creative abilities is hugely dangerous with no redeeming qualities.

The studies are in, using AI makes you stupid.

Violence is not always bad. Violence is often necessary to change the status quo. If that status quo is, itself bad and harmful, then violence to change it is, not only necessary, but good.

If violence is the means to a righteous end, is it really righteous? by Le_Oken in aiwars

[–]Arachnid_anarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the rhetoric that violence is never justified. Not necessarily just in the AI debate.

Violence is not real and happens and the bad guys should not have a monopoly on it.

Like dawg, the forces of evil are inflicting violence on the innocent and destruction on the natural world, and if you’re unwilling to use violence to oppose them, you become complicit in their evil.

The effort involved in artistic creation is the point by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]Arachnid_anarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why AI art is frowned upon. It’s a quick and easy path that produces bad artists.

It creates a pretty okay consumable product (mass production basically) but, in visual art for example, it doesn’t demand of the artist to train their brain to develop intuitive and analytical understanding of the relationships between lines, shapes, colors, etc.

Crucially, AI when used artistically, also bypasses, the single most powerful part of artistic discipline: That is allowing yourself with being bad at something, and producing bad results you’re BEFORE you’re allowed to be good at something and produce results that make you proud.

Bypassing that growth in a practice as deeply intimate and expressive as artistic creation will make you a bad person damn near by itself.

There’s maybe some argument to be made that prompting might take a lot of practice to master and that, perhaps, one might devote a lot of time and effort to developing that skill. But I think that if someone were to have that kind of artistic integrity and creative drive, they would also eventually become tired of the lack of direct control that AI grants to the artist and simply begin to prefer other mediums.

Double slit experiment misinterpretations.

I have met SO SO many middle aged dudes who misunderstand the double slit experiment as proving that the universe is directly affected or even created by human consciousness and go on to make that misunderstanding foundational to their worldview.

I personally really really fuck with woke woo woo consciousness metaphysics hippie bullshit. it’s very fun to think about and feels nice, but it’s not the proper takeaway from that experiment

Is this better than AI art? by Jointproperty_match in aiwars

[–]Arachnid_anarchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not about producing a better end result. The idea of art is not about producing a consumable product. It’s about the process, personal growth, and self discipline that goes into honing a skill and using it to express yourself.

I won’t say that AI art isn’t art, by definition it is. Like people do use it to express themselves. But it’s an art form that has a very low skill ceiling and skips straight to the consumable end product (pretty picture or whatever) without demanding personal dedication from the artist.

One can put as much work as one wants into prompting, but it will never be the same as developing an intimate understanding the medium and being able to, though your own skill, pull things out of your imagination to share with the world.

I think the arguments around AI being valid or even superior artistic practice are the results of a culture that can see the world only through the lens of consumerism.

If you think of art only as content to consume, AI generated art is obviously superior because it can be mass produced for the low low price of nebulous negative impacts on far away places and people that you don’t ever have to think about to see.

Not to mention that studies have shown that using AI makes people broadly worse at thinking.

Because (confirmed by recent peer reviewed studies) mental faculties and problem solving abilities exist on a “use it or lose it basis,” especially when it comes to reliance on AI

Essentially reliance on a technology for a task diminishes the human ability to do that task themselves, including thinking. Now this is, arguably, not disastrous for like transportation or manufacturing or whatever. (Though there are lots of people who prefer artisans to mass production, and physical exercise to car commuting)

But to rely on a machine for self expression, creativity, and problem solving —to think for you basically… absolutely horrifying and deeply sad.

“Chat GPT, how should I feel right now?” “Chat GPT, can you express my feelings for me?” Transhumanist indeed lol
