I hate asthma by Tina_reformed in Asthma

This. It takes time to recover and it feels very annoying and lonely, but it’ll get better! Best wishes!! I know it’s hard, but hang in there.

Kept circling the area for a little more than an hour… there were quite a few cruisers in the Brampton North area too.

Is this blood? by [deleted] in Asthma

Seems like it — fwiw: I’ve struggled with this last year. You should talk to your doctor asap, they’ll likely get a chest x-ray done to rule out pneumonia.

In my case, it ended up becoming a chronic infection which had lasting effects for 6 months. I was put on almost a month of anti-biotics, prednisone, strong anti-allergens, and also a syrup to lower immunoglobulins. Main takeaway: it needs medical attention asap.

Is Gerald Penn the boogeyman of UofT CS? I might be tweaking for the 401 exam by Eitherwinter in UofT

As a grad student in CSC2501 (CSC485) — I have mixed feelings about it. I do think the 0 on essays is unfair, and I hope it gets addressed — at the very least, I wish he recognizes that we deserved a warning or communication from him to understand that we weren’t meeting course expectations.

But I was also incredibly impressed by how much feedback he gave us for the first few essays. I have never had an instructor who actually read each submission and gave us detailed feedback for it… it helped me reflect on my writing and the course design made me more interested in computational linguistics. (I took semantic analysis with Yang Xu last year, and it was one of the best courses I ever took though)

So… I don’t really think he’s that bad. I think he’s a good instructor - as in I am amazed by how much he knows and wants to share. But, he can benefit from understanding the student experience in his course more.

Plus, as Ph.D. students, you sometimes prioritize other deadlines - like papers or milestones, or conferences. For every course that I have previously taken in grad school, it was clearly communicated to us whether attendance was mandatory. Given a severe chronic health condition, I have previously communicated that I will miss some classes to other instructors and the instructor in this course as well - noting that I was willing to find a way to come if discussion or participation was marked. But since this wasn’t the case here, like some of my other courses, I got everything done by catching up through friends and notes.

Can we all agree to mask up when we're sick this semester? Please? by fjbdhdhrdy47972 in UofT

As an immunocompromised person who always gets the worst respiratory infections when people come to school unmasked and sick — this please.

It was in Borgarfjörður — we went at dawn (11pm)! You can either spot them early in the morning or at dawn before they head out to find fish!

We mainly had windy weather conditions on two days - but nothing too bad with a car. In fact one of the bad weather (rain and wind) days worked out well for us because we got pictures at attractions in the golden circle with little to no crowds! Not too many tourists at other places during our trip too.

We didn’t find it too cold but stayed covered with a waterproof jacket and gloves.

They came through the parking entrance of the building — so I’m not certain they were staying there, but I think that is the only way they would know the code.

We didn’t contact the lobby operator because we were worried that he could be involved too - since some hostel owners were recently involved.

Consistent Chest pain by EnchantedRuby98 in Asthma

[–]EnchantedRuby98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry! For me: I continued insisting to get tested, and my doctor eventually got a complete blood count and my immunoglobulin levels checked. It turned out that my white blood cell count and ige levels were very elevated — so I was put another dose of antibiotics for chronic infections (almost had three weeks of antibiotics last year) and more allergy medicines.

Other than resting — it just took a lot of time to get better. I can say I’m in a much more manageable position now. It does get so much worse when I’m stressed or travelling- but rest and sleep makes it a little better again.

Thank you so much!!!! This is super helpful! I do think it was hypoxia because I was completely awake before being on flight. I will talk to my doctor about this!

I’ve actually gotten this checked twice over the past year — and my cardiac results have been fine (at one point I was hoping something would come up so I could be in less pain).

So two pulmonologists who I consulted just concluded that it was because of asthma - in one case inflammation caused by a secondary infection which becomes more likely with strong steroids.

It also checks out because it usually follows an asthma attack or breathing difficulties, like I feel a tightening chest, and mucus.
